My latest @kqedarts.bsky.social story about sold-out masks-required shows sums up many of my thoughts on the ongoing pandemic's fifth anniversary. Many of us are living in the actual new normal. It's never too late to start protecting your loved ones & self again! www.kqed.org/arts/1397262...

rfk is stupid and evil but in 2020 the CDC was literally telling us to wash our hands and sing happy birthday to stop an airborne disease from spreading. both things can be true

at 8am, physical therapist was in an N95 instead of usual surgical mask

“I actually had an appointment before yours today!”

…did someone beat me at my own safety game? did THEY ask her to wear a better mask, and claim an even earlier slot to avoid other patients?

(would they like to be friends??)

neat how five years after the beginning of a (still ongoing) lethal and mass disabling pandemic plus learning loss effects which we still don’t fully understand pundits want us to focus on the out of nowhere scandal of college students wanting more disability accommodations. real death drive shit

I believe in the future of shaming not masking in essential spaces, on transit or in healthcare, the way we shun indoor smoking or lewd public acts. A time will come when not wearing an N95 to a routine medical appointment will be like lighting a cigar in the ER. You’ll be asked to mask up or leave.

it's weird to live in a world where a new 'worst thing you've ever imagined' happens at least a few times a month and it's easy to let it all run together and just sort of wash over you and go totally numb to all of it so you don't freak out because you still have to do laundry and go to work.

I'm genuinely confused about why I've heard virtually no public health statements or news reports about measles that actually explain all of the gruesome things measles does.

Public health seems allergic to "scaring people" - to the point of not informing people.
