I think my post about this got unpinned because I’ve had a few people ask recently what’s up with my username.

I’m non-binary and you can call me Brent or Barbara. I’m a choose your own adventure friend.

The problem is David Warner is dead, which means Ed Dillinger is also dead and he along with Sark and MCP were nonentities in Legacy so all of the new characters related to them don’t have the same impact as Sam Flynn who gets to act against Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn and Clu.
brentosaur.bsky.social
I can see what they were trying to do at some point was to make Ares all about what happened to David Warner’s character, Ed Dillinger, after Tron. There are parts of this movie that play out like what if Legacy was about Dillinger and I think that’s a cool idea.
brentosaur.bsky.social
Quorra and Sam aren’t in this movie except for some screenshots from Legacy used as photos taken of them.
brentosaur.bsky.social
It takes forever for Ares to acknowledge that sentient programs being in the real world is how the last movie ended and all they do is ask what the audience who remembers Legacy has been asking, what happened after that movie? They do not answer that question.
brentosaur.bsky.social
If you ignore Ares’s main problem, which is Leto, then the biggest issue is that unlike Legacy, Ares doesn’t have any new ideas for Tron and relies mostly on people having seen the first movie instead of Legacy.

We did, but not because we wanted to.

As soon as cell phones were able to remember contacts I fried that part of my brain like Harrison Ford fried the part of him that was embarrassed to hulk out after he got his check.

If I ever have to go back I will die.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?
brentosaur.bsky.social
I don’t mind spoiling any of this because fuck this movie.
brentosaur.bsky.social
Also, Nine Inch Nails got the worst cameo deal. They don’t get to be grid characters like Daft Punk, they’re just air force pilots.

So I believe any story about this movie not working and being hastily rewritten because they used WALL-E rules to make the MCP a hero and let Leto compare Depeche Mode to Mozart.

So Tron: Ares is asking people to believe AI is the savior of humanity at the exact wrong fucking time.
brentosaur.bsky.social
Leto’s character, Ares, is the new Master Control Program who was the AI villain from the original Tron. He becomes self-aware and good in the exact same way the robots in WALL-E did, he witnessed love.

He convinces Flynn he’s good by ranting about how Depeche Mode is better than Mozart.

Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world,... I feel like I can't take it. And my heart is just going to cave in.

I’d give Alfred a go at being Spectre, but choose to wait his time with the spirit out rather than enact vengeance upon anyone because he had seen enough of that in life.
brentosaur.bsky.social
The Specks’s telling of his own origin will tie into the original Spectre’s, Jim Corrigan. He was an Imp named Corri Jimgan who was visiting an Earth one day when he was bonked on the head by a guy buried in a block of cement (Jim Corrigan) and woke up only to discover he had become the Specks.
brentosaur.bsky.social
Sue continues to operate as a light version of the Spectre, preferring to call herself a spirit of redemption and offering people a way to make amends. She is extremely vulnerable to magic and her powers fade if Ralph’s spirit is nearby. The Specks offers her occasional support and comedic relief.
brentosaur.bsky.social
Sue would meet the Spectre of the 5th Dimension, The Specks, who would look like an Imp version of the Ralph Dibny Spectre. The Specks would bestow a far less omnipotent version of Spectre’s powers upon Sue to help her continue.

Very quiet or espouse some platitudes about reestablishing norms. Either way, useless.
brentosaur.bsky.social
Sue Dibny becomes the Spectre, but uses her time to investigate the Spectre itself after learning she’s succeeded her husband, Ralph, as host. Eventually her spirit and the Spectre become enemies of each other after she learns too much.

Joe Chill uses his time as the Spectre to bring orphans the murderers who took their parents and guide the children as they decide their fates.
