there are only a few hours left in this project, and though I’m not participating, I have to say, PAROXYSM was a place I got to explore making horror comics (my first comics EVER) amidst other marginalized voices making weird good shit. if you want to support some small press horror, this is it! 🔥

No intention of appealing to Western cliche, but it happened in World War Two, when the nazis systematically dismantled and transported the art of Europe behind enemy lines, behind the nazi veil. What ai tech bros do to human art, expressions and the concept of consent is no different.

She brings the fire
Custom zippo lighter featuring kananesgi ama, the water spider, who brought fire to the people in the #cherokee first fire story
Really happy with how this came out, it was so fun to design!
A photo of a brushed chrome zippo lighter with a printed black cherokee water spider design. The spider is facing downward with the fire, represented by a circle with a cross, on her back. The same water spider lighter, open and lit.

I had my home phone and close friends/partners’ numbers memorized so I could call (or later, text) them from any phone. I still have my current partner’s cell and home phone memorized. it was a really useful skill, and honestly does make me feel safer now in case of an emergency where I’m phoneless.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy passed away today according to the House of GG. She was a veteran of the Stonewall rebellion and a lifelong organizer for the safety and dignity of trans people, sex workers, and the incarcerated. She came from the same generation and milieu as Marsha and Sylvia. She was 78.

I got my books today and already I am feeling so connected to the handful of local authors I found. this one is a cookbook. Noah’s approach to food honors both their experience cooking and the recipe ancestry, and their commentary is rich with a community worldview that I resonate with so deeply.
a photo of a book cover. it reads “Making the Table: Vegetarian Recipes to Nourish Community” by Noah Rubin-Blose. The watercolor illustration depicts several hands of various skin tones placing food on a table, such as bread, leafy greens, and a bowl of veggies.

You get to read the book, *other* people get to read the book, and every interaction like this that you have with your local library sends a message that it is valued and supported by the community.

Apart from everything else, now is a great time to support civic institutions!

Hey, I know books are expensive and money is tight right now.

But if there's a brand new book you really wanna read — including my own Lessons in Magic and Disaster — you can help get the book into way more hands by requesting it from your local library!

It's easy! Check your library's website.

People who don't do art do not seem to understand that the making is the point of it. like leave aside that almost all AI programs have been made through immoral means and that its use is destroying the environment at an even faster rate than most normal industry, I still wouldn't use it for art.

I think this aptly expresses how deeply misunderstood art is by GenAI people. the act of creation is intertwined with our whole being. art is not math: you can’t put it in a calculator and have it solved for you. I would also rather leave the planet than allow a soulless machine to create for me.

there are very specific fields and uses that could benefit from AI (example: learning orca pod dialects that our human ears literally can’t differentiate), but anything that involves building something from nothing is off limits.
bramblebug.bsky.social
I had a recent conversation with someone who asked me if I would play a video game he “made” using AI tools to code most of it for him. I said hell no I would not touch it. “even if *I* made it??” no. I have zero tolerance for it. learn to code.

SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.
