At some point you have to be punished for losing games! Are we going to let the 12 seed advance to the second round instead because they have to play the five seed and the nine seed only had to beat the eight seed?

At least publically, college football is the only sport that tolerates this nonsense.
The coaches will throw a fit about a player transferring to a new school to better his life because he may not be available for the Mike's Hard Lemonade Bowl. But they don't say a damn thing about taking a new job -- and yes, I know Morris is staying on until after the year -- with two weeks to go.
