Randomly spotting an artist I know in national news.

Good trouble.

Ka’ila Farrell-Smith grew up deeply involved in the fight for Indigenous rights. “I’ve been warned my entire life, ‘The FBI’s watching us.’”

Now the agency is focused on her and a new generation of activists challenging a lithium mine in Nevada.

Little (maybe 5 year old) boy in the brewery came up to me and said, very seriously, “You know what? Sometimes you have $5 and sometimes you have $7.”

I really feel that, little dude.

I don’t have $ to contribute but you can have my time! Happy to fold zines, staple whistles, help walk for distribution

@kellycheatle.bsky.social I will happily walk around the neighborhood dropping off whistles into the little free libraries

Unfortunately, but I can pretend that maybe my birthday will actually be the day!

Just learned the rapture is happening on my birthday.

You know it’s gotten weird when you’re on the same page as Ted Cruz and Karl Rove.

They’re even turning on their own. Texas Republican Ted Cruz slammed FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, calling his behavior “mafia-like” and warning that Carr’s threats to retaliate against media companies for their programming were “dangerous as hell.”
Ted Cruz: FCC chair sounded like 'mafioso' in threat over Jimmy Kimmel
Ted Cruz cautioned that the administration's threats against the media posed a risk to free speech protections in the First Amendment.

I keep typing words and then deleting them because none of them are sufficient to capture how utterly fucked up and unacceptable this is. And yet it won't move a single Republican to give a damn.

The president of the United States just declared war, actual military war, not a metaphorical one, on a major American city, and one governed by his political opponents.

In any other period, this would be impeachment-worthy.

So much time and money will be spent on this

Has anyone ever gone through a business rebranding? I worked in marketing when a small nonprofit did. Less than 10 staff, small website. It was a whole nightmare for over a year. Changing the name of even a small business is a huge undertaking. I can’t imagine what a nightmare this would be.

I’d figure out what was needed to make Post a thing again.
One of the old churches and turn it into a concert hall.
Grocery stores. One in each neighborhood.
A new weekly newspaper.

“Just because someone is handing you a bag of dog turds, doesn’t mean you have to take it.”

Was always followed by “Don’t hand out bags of dog turds.”

Oh absolutely. The whole “change your text/values/performance or we’ll destroy your organization and come for your community next” is par for the course.

We may never find out if individual collectors are selling off to the same people.

Hopefully we never come to armed troops storming institutions

Could you mail the European ones, too? Asking for myself/my Swedish nephews.

But yeah, you shouldn’t have to.

There are some fascinating documentaries about the theft of art that happened in wwii.

It’s interesting to me that we’re seeing systemic destruction of the arts again, but this time without the pillaging. Maybe it won’t happen. Maybe it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe we just haven’t heard about it.

*I’ve been a book maker since I was a toddler. And had a past life reading that mentioned being a printmaker. I didn’t actively study those things until 15ish years ago though.

Hello. For those of you who are unfamiliar with my career, you might like to know that I have 20 years of arts nonprofit administration experience. And that is the thing I have the least experience in. The reasonable* maximum is 30 years of experience with photography.

I know my shit, thx ☺️

I have a better chance of surviving that then Yellowstone. But even that is starting to look appealing.
