So we're moving from recovering the costs associated with traffic enforcement and violations to increasing infrastructure and healthcare costs associated with injury.

Fucking muppets.

This is also something that Dem governors also either don't understand, or pretend not to. "Come visit us! We're nice and we also hate tariffs and Trump!" Yes, and ICE operates in your states too, so...?
It is very weird when US media does not report on the safety concerns, which are top of the list for Canadians I know. Yeah we are also pissed off but we've been pissed off since January, the decline was not gonna keep declining based purely on "elbows up."
I legitimately think this article misses the mark, because Canadians are not avoiding travel out of some principled boycott of the USA over tariffs.

Canadians who are avoiding the USA are seeing images of masked government thugs kidnapping people and teargassing children.

My trepidation about travelling to the States to attend a conference was rather prescient, and this is exactly why I chose not to go. Fortunately, I was able to make that choice.

$200K to litigate a case against a social assistance recipient who *may* have received $10K in CERB overpayments is not an "inefficiency", but collecting unpaid taxes on luxury yachts or planes *is* a waste of bureaucratic time?
MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
Op-Ed: Ottawa's costly pursuit of the poor
The government cites inefficiency as a reason to end taxes on vacant homes and yachts — yet keeps pouring money into futile litigation over pandemic-era benefits

Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

Corporate Canada got the budget it wanted. Now they need to deliver.

Economic growth, on its own, is not enough. It must also reverse growing economic inequality.

Working people and young people need to see some of the upside, not just investors.

Any Democratic senator, at any moment, could've derailed this by calling for Schumer's replacement and casting their colleagues as MAGA collaborators, thereby shifting the Overton window. But they're all in on it. This was always a team effort.

MSNBC reported Schumer's office felt that the longer that shutdown went on, the more likely it was that people would start to blame the Dems.

My kingdom for Democrats that don't govern out of fear. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The American people are far braver than their reps.

I wish financial planners would stop warning ppl about the "OAS clawback"

The OAS is the residue of a pension, launched in 1926, to relieve starvation among the very poor

Now, it (and GIS) helps those people, but also ppl with modest savings/pensions

It's 'clawed back' from the very comfortable

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

As an outsider, seeing Zohran win, with a majority, gives me hope.

The fact that 40% of the voters still chose the ghoul option causes a lot of doubts.
