I think functionally you have to consider the first season of any given tv show non-canon until they get all the character details locked in.

Guy who’s spent his whole life only reading about the antichrist reading new media for the first time: “Getting a lot of ‘antichrist’ vibes from this.”

thiel, man, what the fuck are you talking about

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

The antihero Ozymandias, the antichrist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution – eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes it represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world government has repressed science. He believes that the hero, Monkey D Luffy, represents a Christlike figure.

In One Piece, you are set in a fantasy world, again sort of an alternate earth, but it’s 800 years into the reign of this one-world state. Which, as the story unfolds, gradually gets darker and darker. You sort of realize, in my interpretation, who runs the world and it’s something like the antichrist. There’s Luffy, a pirate who wears a red straw hat, sort of like Christ’s crown of thorns. And then towards the end of the story, transforms into a figure who resembles Christ in Revelation.

Thiel, along with a researcher and writer at Thiel Capital, explored these ideas at greater length in an essay for the religious journal First Things earlier this month.

When Silksong is good, it is very good, but it also has no respect for your time and it takes every opportunity to remind you of that.

I think maybe I just need to not have access to a laptop anymore. Maybe computer needs to go back to having its own special room for me, as well.

Lighting a hand rolled Cuban cigar with a 1000 dollar bill while the maitre d'autobus escorts me to my first class seat. I think about the poor, slovenly fools stuck taking the subway, and chortle to myself at their deserved misfortune.

Helps that the nominal opposition's idea of checking his power seems to just be doing the "We tried nothing and we're all out of ideas!' bit from The Simpsons, I suppose.

Speaks to real confidence in your guy's ability to rule when you keep going through legal codes with a fine toothed comb looking for minor loopholes you can exploit to keep him in power on technicality thanks to the grace of the sycophantic council of viziers he blatantly installed for that purpose.

Also, I think Hollywood might just be addicted to letting Jared Leto open movies to thunderous indifference for some reason.

Tron was a property Disney owned and could revive for young male audiences which iirc they were struggling with in the 00s. Then the MCU exploded, Disney bought Star Wars and that demo was covered. Idk if it's coincidence that a new Tron is coming out when both the MCU and Star Wars are floundering.

Pretty confused by how TRON became a big-budget movie franchise. Was it a bit hit when it came out? No. Did it become a big hit on video/TV? Also no. Do people have fond nostalgic memories of it? Eh kinda but not really. Was it secretly great and critically acclaimed? No again

Not gonna pretend I'm a diehard or anything, but I watch a few games each season, and I like this current lineup of guys. Baseball's always been a great "have it on in the background" kind of sport.

Thanks to the Blue Jays post-season performance, baseball is entirely who I am (for) now.

Sure, we fixed the hole in the ozone layer, but now hairspray doesn't work anymore. What cost, environmental health???

Thinking about the amazing timeline where Jimmy Fallon left SNL, did a couple of mediocre movies, and then disappeared forever so we never had to hear about him ever again, instead of this hell world where he's in charge of the biggest show in late night and I constantly have to see his stupid face.

Not to sound like a chest-thumping Canadian patriot, but "The Trump administration is resolute in our support for allies of the United States..." is kind of a wild thing to say after spending the better part of a year trying to dismantle your historically closest ally's entire economy.

Apparently the $20 billion for Argentina was just the beginning of the US bailout according to Bessent today, since so many American oligarchs have big investments there that they can’t afford to lose.

I had a 'The Bear'-esque dining sequence when I worked in a big kitchen for a summer and they routinely made us cut our breaks to like one 15 minute lunch per 10 hour day. I don't need to experience that again.
