It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

This is far from over, but I tend to agree. Authoritarian attempts are prototypical cases of multiple equilibria: when the key actors believe that it will succeed, they are more likely to join, which makes it more likely to succeed. When that belief crumbles, the probability of success vanishes...

framing transit advocates as wanting higher costs and conflict is uh not generous? automated trains clearly save costs, hence the union conflict. the cost of the useful/expensive things would clearly be offset by this savings.
