Yes, the better analogy is A-level French or German. They could’ve just said B2 CEFR, but then comes the awkward bit where someone asks what the E stands for. Ehm … English, minister. 😁
An excellent piece. Every word.
Excellent piece that really explained the issues - thank you.
Just 1 note:

“Hamas has not complied with the ceasefire it agreed a week ago …”

Given #Israel has attacked Gaza nearly 50 times and kept Rafah crossing closed since then, it’s clear who’s breaking the ceasefire.

😂 And he blocks.
Arab football - sorry, “soccer” to you - clubs don’t play in Europe. 🙄
It is antisemitic to conflate Israelis with all Jewish people.
On both counts, football and antisemitism, you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
As I said, you’re both stupid & ignorant. GTFOOH!
No, you didn’t.
“And the UK is known for it's peaceful football fans” ending with “ lol.” is just you making a childishly petty comment based on your own prejudice. No country is obliged to accept another country’s thugs, not even Israeli ones. Worry about your own country’s many problems instead 👍
England has a football hooliganism problem (it’s a rare event these days and in fact more common abroad when England fans rather than club fans travel) is irrelevant. UK is not obliged to accept foreign football thugs anymore than other countries should accept ours. That’s it. Think before you post!
It was factual - it’s your problem if you can’t handle that. You made an ignorant and frankly stupid comment, posting about something you know fuck all about. You used neither reason nor logic in your original post - if you had, I would’ve reasoned back, but you didn’t and here’s why: Whether or not
“A traditional conservative and NOT maga” you may be, but you’re just as stupid.
What’s that noise? Not the stampede of certain political party leaders making a break for the exit is it?

If only those twats had checked MTA’s history going back to before Amsterdam they might’ve avoided conflating Israeli football hooligans with Jewish people …

Would you like to comment since you were so quick to jump on Starmer’s Israel/Jews conflation bandwagon? MTA had a reputation for racism & hooliganism well before Amsterdam, yet YOU seem to think they should be allowed to go to Birmingham. Ill-judged call?

"The Israeli Premier League derby between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv was cancelled by police after "violent riots" before kick-off."

There are MANY politicians who owe West Midlands police a profound apology.

List/tag them. 👇

Otoh, we have a gay, Jewish man with - according to pin-up boy Jeremy Clarkson - bad teeth saying it now. It might be some other factor. Alex suggests desperate times and he may be right.
Oh! 😬 But I do see a lot of similarity btwn them, not least that both are good communicators (tho’ wary they said that of Reagan too, replacing “good” with “great”) and have a +ve vision to communicate. As I say there are risks in that but yes maybe he is succeeding where CL didn’t due to the times.

Reading this book at the moment.
It is quietly shocking, the speed at which far right ideology infected a population. I keep reminding myself it wasn’t written after the War.

It speaks volumes of Reform’s popularity brought about by lies & loose, fake promises of greatness & hatred of ‘the other’
I think you’re right to be worried, but at the same time someone needs to take that risk and show leadership by pointing the way to a vision we can all aspire to, and - rather like Zohran Mamdani - ZP seems willing to take the risk. Mamdani simply by being in the US is perhaps more vulnerable.
Is he pleading journalism on the grounds of “diminished responsibility”?
Please note, Yorkshire folk, we love the region and have holidayed regularly there but something’s missing. You’re being hijacked by some really miserable people.
Nope. It’s the English more than anybody. I think they have an identity crisis - Brexshit is a symptom that we’re all suffering. Just back home from being in Yorkshire, which is looking so down. So many stupid flags, wtf. One road in Leeds had a flag strung up on every single lamppost. Pathetic.
I accept that (in Indyref 1, I was in fact pro-union). I know you’re one of the good guys but I still think it is important for readers south of the border to be aware of what was “done” to Scotland & the oil was a sore one. While correct, “Legally” is really just a technicality (like Brexit vote).
Is that accurate? In the last 12 months, haven’t antisemitic incidents fallen 18%, while Islamophobic incidents have risen 19%? That said, Jewish people suffer the highest rate due to their lower numbers.
