Oo good question. Only one I can think of that I’ve read is the Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones. I’m sure there are a lot more that I haven’t heard of yet.

Maybe the best historical fiction novel I’ve read since the final Hilary Mantel novel. (Lots on my TBR pile though to be fair!)

Honestly even when it did give me an excellent jump scare it wasn’t cheap at all.

But yes it is so much more upsetting and unsettling than scary and that is 100% what I look for in horror
