I love books, yarn, beasties, movies, and pop culture. Left coast of Canada and so liberal I'm almost a communist, kidding, but definitely a socialist. 🇨🇦🍁🧶🐾

Photo of me. It's winter, I'm wearing a light brown wool coat with a hand-knitted alpaca scarf wrapped around my neck. I have silver hair that is held back with a headband, I am grimacing. There is a pigeon on each of my shoulders and one on my outstretched hand. I tossed them a tiny piece of Tim Horton's muffin, and they mobbed me. There were approximately 40 more pigeons around my feet. I made a mistake.

Have you read any of Tom's work yet? Future you will be so happy you did, he's wonderful! And don't even get me started on how ridiculously talented his family members are too. Amazing.
I've had to rebuild this a bit - & my following - since moving away from Substack & losing a lot of oddly Substack-loyal people, but I relish the challenge as it means I have to work hard & write well. Huge archive of work on there. All of it can be read for £2 a month/£20 a year: www.tom-cox.com

Trevor Noah did a bit about folks needing to be flabbergasted, and to flabbergast with others, when they are caught all unawares by something. And they get super upset if you will not flabbergast with them. Super upset. 😂

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

You will die. You will not live forever. Nor will any man nor any thing. Nothing is immortal. But only to us is it given to know that we must die. And that is a great gift: the gift of selfhood. For we have only what we know we must lose, what we are willing to lose.
😬😬 That basement scene lives rent free in my head, probably forever.

Setting aside graverobbing woman who died in no small part due to men exploiting her image, copyright violations aren't "growing pains." It's literally the law. They’re breaking the law. Without copyright law, there is no creative industry, and without a creative industry, there is no genAI.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians! I will be preparing the traditional dish, tacos with refried beans on the side. What can I say, we go old school in our house. 😁🍂🍁🌮

It's such a happy hat with its lovely speckles.
