While I wholeheartedly agree about some people getting too excited about some of the content, I think it doesn’t appreciate that a significant portion of readers use this medium to participate actively. It’s hard to call it SOCIAL media if there’s an expectation people just consume quietly.

I honestly don’t get the logic behind banning books because kids. You wouldn’t ban entire movie genres because kids, right? Is this because parents lack classification like there is for movies? Then enact classification rather than ban them, no? PG and M for some books and problem solved.

Microsoft Excel was released on September 30, 1985.

40 years later, an elite handful of analysts, actuaries, and accountants converge annually in Las Vegas for the Excel World Championship.

Microsoft Excel is arguably the world’s most important piece of business software. Can it also be a sport?

In my estimation, a lot of the people who have problems with Bluesky are so used to platforms just serving up the content buffet that they're unwilling to do the work to have a good experience here.

That work is the social part of social media.

I saw a guy coding today. No Claude code in the terminal. No ChatGPT window. Not even Copilot humming in the background. He just sat there, typing line after line of code by himself, like a psychopath.

Massive announcement given DuckDB’s impact on the industry but same questions!
Processing the DuckLake announcement (bsky.app/profile/duck...). How does this compare to using Iceberg with a catalog backed by an RDBMS? Are there certain capabilities one couldn't get with the latter but one can get with DuckLake?

Today we're launching DuckLake, an integrated data lake and catalog format powered by SQL. DuckLake unlocks next-generation data warehousing where compute is local, consistency central, and storage scales till infinity. ducklake is an open standard and we implemented it in the "ducklake" extension.

Today, we’re announcing the preview release of ty, an extremely fast type checker and language server for Python, written in Rust.

In early testing, it's 10x, 50x, even 100x faster than existing type checkers. (We've seen >600x speed-ups over Mypy in some real-world projects.)
