I love seeing BTS like this bc it comes from a piece of art where you're like "How did he do that??" to watching carefully over the process and going "Ooooooh, so that's how he did that" and unlocking some new knowledge for yourself that makes art seem less impossible

In stressy times I find myself reading a lot more horror, & I always find myself comforted there. My spirits can be brightened by just one short story of Ligotti or Aickman.

This year I’ve read some really great books by new-to-me horror writers, so if you’re in the mood for a chilly hug, read on…

Every day I get angrier abt that wretched Harper’s Letter, and the broader feckless, bothsider-poisoned media environment that treated it as legit.

I’m profoundly disappointed in the left-leaning types who gave reputational cover to a nakedly bad-faith doc.

And furious at the on-going silence.
If anyone is curious about the current list of search terms being used by right wing activist organizations to harass university professors, here's a public records request I received today from Mike Howell of the Heritage Foundation. Not intimidating or meant to curtail by my speech at all, right?

one of the things I think is wild is that recorded music is recent enough that these comparisons never really work. arguably, the whole thing--recorded popular music--is a boomer phenomenon and is on the way to being something totally different than what we have all always assumed was permanent
one more cab calloway thing: he performed "minnie the moocher" in blues brothers, which was a 1931 song in a 1980 movie, the modern equivalent would be aerosmith performing "back in the saddle" in a movie released this year, you're all welcome

✨ A few years back I stood outside Wells Cathedral for a full day and photographed the impact of the light on the front facade. I was amazed at the outcome - at how a single entity could morph and change under the changing light. 🌅 #thread

Thought this was a really fun short with great characters and really cool action set pieces. Lots of cool details like the casino built on top of the AT-AT walkers, Anee-san's hairdo, the Grand Master's prosthetic feet made it pop and feel distinct.

people have always felt overwhelmed by life, its the human condition. people have also consumer trashy novels for centuries (Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey is a vicious parody of Gothic lit, if she were alive today it would be a parody of Romantasy)

The reason people don't like conservative students is that whenever they're inconvenienced or annoyed they throw a tantrum and call in national media to terrorize their peers.

Gotta clean it up but this feels really good overall, just need to design an outfit from before she gets this one from her first teacher

Time for another reference dump!

This zip file contains 2,566 photos (6.58 GB) from the Metropolitan Museum of Art arms and armor collection. I tried to focus on the types of details you don't see in most available reference, like hinges and fasteners.

Enjoy!
