me as Luke Skywalker in like...1979?

8-year-old me in khaki pants, tall boots, and a large white blouse belted at the waist, homegrown haircut, with hands on my hips and one foot posted jauntily on a child's rocking chair. I am Luke Skywalker and looking back at this and other costumes of years past (particularly my skater boy outfit senior year of high school) has kind of helped me make some Realizations.

I wish so badly I could find my xena warrior princess from a few years prior but I fear all photos of that particular culmination of grandma’s sewing excellence have been lost.

Also the idea that animism is unique to the americas in unspecified “ancient times” bothers me because even though it is clearly not in our mainstream/over culture many native people around the world are still raised with that worldview centered.

okay which one(s)? There is no singular Native American culture.

Plenty of traditions may overlap but I wish we could collectively get out of the habit of referring to native traditions as if indigenous cultures are a monolith.
