Catholics were frozen out of a lot of jobs in Northern Ireland. The British tried to lessen the problem by hiring them at national-level organisations, e.g. the Post Office (which did telecoms then). Loads of Catholics trained as telecoms engineers and, consequently, the IRA had the best timers.
wife got a timer for all of our christmas lights so obviously thinking of this

Yes, people on the left can get radicalized and brought over to the far right. Or buy into disinformation. Or spread bigotry.

As can you. As can I.

Assuming people are immune to radicalization is how the defense against it dies down.

kinda seems like what happened is that Bradley correctly understood that he was being ordered to commit war crimes but did not anticipate that anyone would later distinguish between the types of war crimes he was willing to commit
But it does worry me a little bit to see military officials angry about Bradley being thrown under the bus without a concurrent acknowledgement that he did in fact commit an obvious war crime.

If you are on X or other platforms rife with antisemites, keep an eye on the word “usury.”

It’s becoming the new popular dog whistle. Very common usage now to imply that Jews are behind the economic problems of the world and the suffering people are going through due to inequality.

Nick Fuentes has been working overtime to sanitize his image and present himself as a uniter of the left and right. Very clearly using language often associated with the left.

This is part of a larger effort by the anti-Zionist antisemitic far right to recruit people on the left.

Requiring people to pay to travel domestically because they don’t have a particular type of identity document that is difficult to get (particularly for married women with name changes) feels really ominous.

today is the first time since 1988 that the united states is not observing world AIDS day

in fact, per STAT, the state department has forbidden federal employees AND GRANTEES to not utilize any funding to promote or commemorate this day

This was my orange cat Boston's favorite toy. It was a gift from a Catstagram friend. He played rough with it and I replaced it so many times. When they started getting harder to find I stocked up whenever I could.

When he passed away I had one reserve Hedgie left.

I got a deal on ground beef so instead of making croquettes with the last of the mashed potatoes I am making another cottage pie. This one has a base layer of blind baked stuffing, beef with onions, spices & Worcestershire, cheddar, the last of the mashed potatoes and stuffing mixed for the top. 🍽️

DOJ says immigration judges, as "inferior officers," may be fired on the basis of sex, religion, race, or national origin. Leaving aside the law, it's *politically* remarkable they're taking this position.

Pass legislation requiring that no one earning less than $100k a year be audited or pursued for tax debt while corporatons use arcane loopholes to avoid paying any tax at all.
My bipartisan IRS MATH Act with Senator Bill Cassidy is now law.

Now, if you mess up your taxes, the IRS has to tell you where you made a mistake and how to fix it.

No more spending a fortune on lawyers or hours to find errors.

That means fewer headaches and more money in your pocket.

Mayor Karen Bass is celebrating 1,000 days out from the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles today. She defunded the city's Department of Disability this year, a dept that makes up 0.1% of the city's budget. If it weren't for the Olympics, would the city be making these accessibility improvements?

Reporter: If there were a second strike that killed wounded people, would that be legal?

Trump: I don’t know that happened and Pete said he did not even know what people were talking about. I wouldn’t have wanted a second strike. The first strike was very lethal. It was fine.

Disabled people were one of the first groups targeted by the Nazis.

They coined the term “useless eaters”.

They tested the gas chambers on us.

They knew most people wouldn’t fight to save our lives.

That’s why the President using the R slur is so dangerous.

We’re not expendable

Today is the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks' arrest. Six myths: 1) She wasn't old or tired. 42 years old that day, she had a "life history of being rebellious" & had spent two decades helping to turn the Montgomery NAACP into a more activist branch alongside ED Nixon and Johnnie Carr.
