I think that Helen Lovejoy being the image of the whole “think of the children” stereotype of handwringing over children’s media for the past 30ish years has dulled the cultural memory of what that moment was meant to parody: the actual drive to “improve” kid’s shows that began in the late ‘60s.

This version of the duo was neutered for a reason. Parental watchdog groups were calling the shots throughout the 1970s. Most Saturday morning cartoons had to be "safe" and "non-violent". Thus is also the REAL reason why there were so many Scooby-Doo clones in that era.
