Because neurodivergent people are so literal and honest, we get mislabeled as rude, sassy, or smart-mouthed when we’re actually just being exact.

It is important for us to reduce the symptoms of autistic trauma, but if we try to do that in a space where connection and acceptance is systematically denied from us, we will have an intensely painful experience of rejection.

Oof!
Autistic people shouldn’t be pressured or expected to just ‘bounce back’ from burnout 👌🏽

♾️ instead of rebellious, I was cautious and scared of everything
♾️ I couldn't go to parties or use a bus by myself

You know you’re a great writer &/or communicator when people accuse you of using AI.
Or, you might be autistic — as we speak algorithmically, are rigid perfectionists when it comes to grammar/syntax & express in a painfully exacting way due to a lifetime of being misunderstood.

It really is the answer, and learning that as an autistic adult alters your brain chemistry 🤯
as a terminal “why? why? why?” (autistic) child who really needs to understand the reason for something being a certain way in order to do it, it’s really weird and annoying that 20 years later it turns out “idk it just is” isn’t just something ur parents tell u to shut up but the full actual answer

Autistic Social Skills: Understanding Organic Autistic Experiences of Connection and Friendship
We know from a variety of research that Autistic individuals seek social connection, and often connect well with other Autistic people. If Autistic people so regularly develop rapport with other Autistic people, this suggests that Autistic people have Autistic social skills. But what does organic Autistic connection and socialising look like? This blog outlines some examples of how Autistic people demonstrate our own ‘brand’ of social skills.

Autistic people don't need to have "special gifts" or "superpowers" to have value. Autistic people shouldn't have to have some unique, exceptional talent to trade in exchange for you tolerating someone being different from you.

Do the lyrics to the nursery rhyme “Rockabye Baby” bother any other autistic people? I always took it too literally and had to change the last line if I sang it to a child 🥴

Autistic people are often taught to "be more flexible" or "go with the flow" but guess what? Abusers love that. They rely on us doubting ourselves and not speaking up. Your boundaries aren’t a problem. You’re allowed to say no ♾️

It’s me. I’m one of the people in her timeline continually making the mistake of thinking, “if I just patiently explain the facts in a clear way, then people will understand and do better…”
Oh, sweet (AuDHD) inner self, remember to use self-care to brace yourself for the repetitive disappointment.

My personal timeline is full of autistic people trying to explain that there isn't more autism than before, it's just that we're better at detecting it, and there's nothing more autistic than hoping explaining something at length will help matters when nobody is really listening.

I’ve never heard autistic inertia described better! 👏🏻
Starting feels impossible.
Stopping feels dangerous.
That’s autistic inertia.
It isn’t failure - it’s information.
A sign to slow down, regulate, listen.

Walking that autistic tightrope trying to communicate with medical providers about symptoms.
Say too much, docs think you're lying or overreacting, say too little, docs think you're fine.
Have to give just the right amount of breadcrumbs for them to believe you and want to help solve the problem.
