For those who don’t know, today is Trans Day of Remembrance, an annual commemoration of all the trans people who are no longer with us. So, if there is a trans person in your life, check on them, say hi, maybe buy them lunch, idk. It’s a rough one. 🏳️‍⚧️ #TDOR

My Torts professor - who is so unbelievably inspiring - told us a heartbreaking, yet hopeful story tonight - then ended with these words:

“Freedom of expression is priceless . . . Without New York Times v. Sullivan - there is nothing left of Democracy.”

Quick review of Ken Burns' American Revolution...it was just too fast. Tried to do too much too quickly.

Hit some key points, with some different perspectives, but lacked depth and nuance.

Okay apparently my weekly movie watching group has been hijacked by not one but two podcasts? And I have to download an app? I’m just going to watch ep. 1 of this Ken Burns American Revolution doc and tweet about it here. Or not, whatever. #HATM

Watching the PBS doc on the American Revolution, while listening to the hosts over on the eventbrite site, and reading the chat there, along with the #HATM discussion here on BS, all while drinking hot chocolate out of my #HATM Holiday mug.

One of the most awkward/bad-vibes occasions in my entire career was a hotel room (not suite) interview with a 5-person search committee, 2 of whom were literally sitting on the bed. And I'm a dude; I can only imagine how creepy this was for women.
If you are not in academia, you might not know this, but job interviews used to be held at conferences IN HOTEL ROOMS. Women candidates in a hotel room alone with often all-male committees. People sitting on beds! The horror stories I've heard.
I thing I sometimes thing about is that university departments were still doing job interviews in hotel rooms in the mid aughts

Will Ken Burns’ American Revolution deify, vilify, or humanize the Founders? Will it advance a clear interpretation or will it let the viewer decide? Will it give us anything new, or just present what historians have been arguing about for years?

Find out tonight…

The Democrats called out racist shitbags and serial sex offenders.

If you heard those attacks and felt they were calling *you* out personally, then that's entirely on you, champ.

The rest of us white guys didn't hear that. At all.
Dems didn't brand "white dudes" as the "bad guy" as Portnoy suggests. We branded people who support a toxic, hate-filled convicted felon who abuses women and lies constantly about everything as the bad guys, and they just happen to be disproportionately white men.
