In the midst of all of this crap news, I’d like to remind y’all that I had a cameo in one of Dav Pilkey’s comics, about a year ago. It’s about my work on Fredric Wertham. Check out some of the images!

I appreciate having my work cited in academic pubs, but this citation is priceless. 📚 #libcomix
A two page spread from the Fredric Wertham mini-comic in Pilkey’s Cat Kid Comic Club: Influencers. It is drawn in “kid”-style. The panels depict the impact of Wertham’s Seduction of the Innocent, Carol Tilley’s research at the Library of Congress and subsequent publication in 2012 of her findings about Wertham’s research, and a visual depiction of Wertham conducting questionable research on comics. In the top right panel, Carol is depicted with a book titled, “Diary of a Wimpy Doctor” and is saying “That dude LIED!" The Notes & Fun Facts page from Cat Kid Comic Club: Influencers. One note is circled. It reads: “Somebody” (mentioned on page 102) was actually an assitant professor at the University of Illinois named Dr. Carol Tilley. She investigated Dr. Wertham’s manuscripts at the Library of Congress and in 2012 concluded that “Wertham manipulated, overstated, compromised, and fabricated evidence - especially that evidence he attributed to personal clinical research with young people - for rhetorical gain." The cover of Dav Pilkey’s book Cat Kid Comic Club: Influencers. It shows a three big-eyed creatures along with Cat Kid reading a bright pink book.

Goodnight, friends.

This energy that my beloved Catman is giving off in this photo? Take it with you into this week.

Be fierce and resolute.

Also, don't be ashamed to seek out consensual cuddles.

I love you.

The deportation order is based on Vedam’s conviction for murder—a crime he did not actually commit and for which he’s now been wholly exonerated. He entered the US at 9 months old and was a legal permanent resident before his conviction. We are so, so, so far from the light of justice.

After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

The amount of money we are giving to Argentina amounts to $450 per resident of that country. But we're not even giving it to people there who need it, we're giving it to prop up Elon's pal, the corrupt President of that country, who'll then shovel some of it into the pockets of Trump's friends here.

On top of the endless performative public lying (bsky.app/profile/donm...), this is more of the endlessly offensive/inane “government jobs are not real jobs, except when they’re cops & soldiers” nonsense that every right-wing politician from Ronald Reagan to Scott Walker has been selling for years.

WELKER: During the 2019 shutdown when Trump was president, no federal workers were laid off. Why are these firings necessary?

VANCE: Who do we care more about- federal bureaucrats or the troops getting the payment they need?

WELKER: But layoffs are a priority?

VANCE: They have forced us to choose

Trump was President on January 6th.

The FBI agents were sent by his FBI in response to the riot at the Capitol.

The lies are either getting more ridiculous and dangerous, or his grip on reality is. Either way, this is not a man who should have nuclear codes.

Sunday reading:

I wrote about the aggrieved extremist who is currently firing thousands of federal workers and ravaging state capacity based on conspiratorial nonsense - and about mainstream media’s infuriating tendency to sanitize Russell Vought and the regime he serves.

This week’s piece:
We need to talk about Russell Vought – But Properly
Why certain mainstream outlets insist on sanitizing Vought as a devout “small government” conservative – and what actually animates his war against pluralistic democracy

Attacks on the federal workforce are also attacks on Black workers, who are overrepresented in the public sector.

Black unemployment is 7.5%. I'm reminded of Coates' observation that Black Americans regularly experience conditions that would be considered a crisis if whites faced them.
