Very sorry to hear of the passing Old Mudgie today. He had been unwell for a few days. I had been in contact with him since Tuesday about him feeling unwell. I urged him many times to contact 111 as I felt he had suffered a stroke/heart attack.

He will be missed RIP 😔

First ever attempt at #linocut, just figuring out how it all works.

Forgot to reverse my 1, and didn’t have any paper to have so had to use the brown paper Amazon uses to pack out boxes.

Still, happy enough with that to begin with.

This may seem self-evident but, given the times we live in, it’s worth saying outright: there are lots of good people out there. And sometimes alcohol can be a shortcut to getting to know them.

Writing my eulogy for Mum. Apparently she used to share a flat with Mary Berry. (Yes, the famous one.) Two little footstools, now in my home, were supposedly once Mary's, but I can't help wonder whether this is true or whether I somehow misheard or misunderstood.

Wonder if MB would remember.

Ah well, now this is a nice thing. Reflections on favourite drinking spots, self, life and change.

Thinking on, should it be the objective of a pub to create such spaces, and to hold them as we and the world change around them?

No pressure then.

David's a crafty bugger: he's put a lot of work into this and then written it so it reads like he hasn't.

You should take a look.

The gin itself is very tasty too - present bundle idea?

Abridged tasting note from my book:

The rock samphire lends a refreshing saline citrus note that floats through like a breath of sea air balanced by rooty warming spice. Try it in a Bee's Knees garnished with lemon and lavender.

Tis’ the season and all that.

Out today on The Glass, I wrote about not knowing when you're having your last drink in a special place.

Ironically my parents sold the house I mention shortly after it was published and I never sat on that balcony again. Funny how these things go sometimes.

Out for a nice meal tonight. Too full for dessert so had a shot of Fernet Branca instead as a digestif. Mrs G wasn’t familiar so I described it as “very bitter, very minty, very intense,” which had the server smirking. Dunno why - I think that’s pretty accurate 😀

Breal bought a slew of unloved brands and then engaged in a damaging race to the bottom. This was the inevitable conclusion and the only surprise is that it has taken this long.

My thoughts are with the blameless employees that will be affected by their failure.

When I've tried to use Zoom to do interviews lately it's made my screen flicker so badly that it's basically unusable. In fact for the call just now I gave up and used the phone instead. (Imagine!)
