I think @politico.com did a great job in reporting this story, but I disagree with this framing. The participants did not think "no one" was listening; my guess is that they were playing to an audience that they thought would be receptive to their slurs.

The chat offers an unfiltered look at how a new generation of GOP activists talk when they think no one is listening.

my thoughts on the nazi GOP text group are roughly what i mentioned in the 1st part of this essay. identity with the GOP has become increasingly correlated w/ "ethnic antagonism" — this type of rhetoric is sadly to be expected as you make GOP identity stronger
