To think I used to work directly with the deputy director and run past the director of NIH and I thought there was a conspiracy because the executives of United Healthcare were in the building one time.

My father famously didn't complain about his 386 at work when I had a 486 as an intern because he remembered drum memory. "This is like Buck Rogers stuff," he'd tell me. But my mental picture of Buck Rogers was this show, which was not what I was going for in 1995.

This is also the place in Prague where the pickpockets train junior pickpockets.
Installed in 1410, this 600 year-old clock located in Prague is the world's oldest astrological clock still in operation.

I never knew about the Abe Beam time capsule. Like Dick Van Dyke I have to assume Beam was OK because my aunt never raged about him at Gracie Mansion.

In my former life one of my most sensitive data points was knowing which scientists reviewed your grant applications and exactly what they said about it.
The White House said they were going to destroy peer review in August. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Democrats are divided about pursuing a third Trump impeachment.
But Trump’s second term actions — abuses of federal power amidst a racial backlash — fits well with previous historical patterns. 🧵

The next time Peter uses the word iconic in a flippant manner I am going to use this as a good example of things being iconic. These lines are so iconic you can tell the film from one short sentence.
The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

Not that anyone likely cares, nor does it really matter, but I finally (probably a couple years too late) pulled the plug on Twitter, and will be posting here exclusively. It felt like when my local mall started dying--except with more bigots, creeps, and the bad kind of weirdo.

The only nature I've seen in the last day or two was a super fluffy winter coated fox in the snow, then the whole belle & sebastian song plays in my head.

"Andrew, can you show us one of your grandfather's car invoices?" I sure can!

About two years ago my cousin mailed me my grandmothers photo album because she didn't know who most of the people in the pictures were. I opened it up and saw my grandparents in their 20s for the first time. They looked 70 at 50 like everyone who lived through the depression.

The exact line was “you used to be so cute! What happened to you? Did you swallow Carroll O’Connor!?”
It made my dad laugh when I imitatedTriumph the insult comic dog roasting Rob Reiner for no longer being cute and possibly eating Carrol O’Connor.

Germany 1996: I found the American section of the department store. A few days later I encountered a a very loud American in my regular grocery store looking up and down every aisle for peanut butter. I did not help him. I still think about this. Who wants to help a loud boorish American?
