In rural (white) PA where I grew up all the women worked in the blouse mills. It was like the only job, aside from bank teller or grocery store clerk.

I’ll read again. I’m bothered by the framing that rural conservative people are just trying to live Christian lives and then liberals move in with “their agenda.” I grew up in a rural area with liberal parents and friends, but still part of a community. Rural isn’t one thing. Or didn’t used to be.
