Yes, significantly. Insurance has to cover preventative care with $0 copay, and must cover pre-existing conditions and mental health conditions. They also can’t charge cancer survivors or ppl with existing health conditions more than others in their group.

Biomarkers / oncotyping revolutionized cancer treatment since 2006, full stop.

The reference to AI says a lot here but ignoring that, the answer is obviously “literally everything”
helldude.bsky.social
what exactly has gotten better for the average person in the past 20 years with all the innovation such as AI, exactly? what's the social use case here

The biggest difference is that I had access to oncotype testing. Which meant I wasn’t sent for chemo. Oncotype testing has led chemo use to go down and survival to go up for our very common cancer (invasive Ductal carcinoma)

20 years ago my mom got the same kind of cancer I got anf my experience is much much better!

I’m so surprised by this take! I had my first two babies in 2002 with 80s or 90s era laundry machines and it sucked. My sister has six kids and contemporary machines and her kids clothes are holding up much better?

Laundry Machines have not gotten better, especially if you have kids. After over a decade of struggle with fancy new washing machines, we've gone back to an old school Speed Queen and have never been happier.

The improvement and wide spread adoption of HPV vaccines is pretty big. But besides that we really do/did have incredibly cheap consumer goods and transportation thereof over the past 20 years.

Televisions are so so so cheap now (even if you do need a sound bar now too) and “devices” too

We added a lot more coverage, like pre existing condition coverage.

You can argue that that juice isn’t worth the squeeze but like it’s (part of) the reason (to the extent that premiums have risen at all)
helldude.bsky.social
how do health care premiums just double? where are these alleged efficiencies, or even our share of these vaunted efficiencies

I kind of believe in cursed places because of Killeen Texas but SF makes another compelling case

i think the SF part is underrated because the only exposure to american governance they have is a city with very unique problems. and also one with a history of cultism that goes back much longer than people imagine

rewatched “Monsters, Inc.” with the kid and it’s a great movie but there’s a scene where a toddler just falls asleep instantly in a bed and I’ve never been angrier in my life

It’s so weird that he signs his posts now because he was a frequent tweeter of unsigned tweets wasn’t he?

Makes me think this is just a thing that will happen as part of aging the way I’ve started using way more emojis in texts after entering the age accelerator

Suppose you accidentally walked in on a bunch of lizard people with their human disguises half off.

How would you go about telling anyone about this without being dismissed as either joking or insane?

With the government closed and official data collection on hold, economists are scrambling to find any clues on the economy.

They’re looking at paychecks, restaurant reservations, Broadway show bookings and even Statue of Liberty visitor numbers.
The government isn’t releasing economic data. Private firms are stepping in.
The government shutdown has prompted private firms to release their own economic data, filling a gap left by the absence of official figures.

I may have googled both their names plus Chronic and been confidently informed by AI that both of them wrote Ross’s Lyme book
annadistracted.bsky.social
At this point if someone tells me they are an opinion writer I just assume they have a chronic illness
annadistracted.bsky.social
Gdi I did it again!!!! Other way round. Rod has mono, Ross has Lyme, Bob’s your uncle
