For those of you who just came here from my mastodon/mathstodon on the promise of ephemeral stuff such as food and pants: I just had breakfast (cereal, yogurt, and a banana, all mixed together, and a cup of tea) and I’m wearing a skirt.

Them: need help doing things?

Me: yes

Them: we have a doing things medication

Me: ooh

Them: hahahahaha guess what you have to do to get it?

Me: oh no

Them: things.
To paraphrase Baldbox: Of all of the coding tests for job applications you will ever do in your lifetime, one of them has to be the worst. This could be the day for it.

Wow, I just saw in my fb memories that on this day 11 years ago, some guests for JoCo Cruise 5 were announced. Consistency!
Thanks, iOS 26, for screening this call from a weirdo. 😂

(It was actually someone I’d just talked to from a recruiting firm whose name sounds a little like weirdo, I guess)
Screenshot of the iPhone incoming call screen with caller ‘Maybe: Angelo’ and reason for calling, ‘Oh, hi, Angelo, this is, uh, from a weirdo, and just now we had a…’
I think my flight suit’s getting a little small on me, but I’ll make it work!
Yesssss, finally we got an astronaut! I'll have to bring all three of my astronaut costumes even though the theme days don't really suit them as much as in previous years.
Announcing the JoCo Cruise 2026 featured guests! We have some amazing newcomers, as well as returning fan favorites and old friends. Visit our website for more information about this stellar line up!

The new macOS/iOS version of Seddit is out! In this version, if you have voices in multiple languages selected, it will detect the language of the first post or comment by each user and give them a voice that speaks that language. So they’ll be pronounced correctly. apps.apple.com/us/app/seddi...

You may now kiss the bride.

What if all long term contracts were sealed with a kiss?

You may now kiss the landlord.
You may now kiss the car salesperson.
You may now kiss the recruiter.
You may now kiss the mortgage broker.

October is blindness awareness month and you might have noticed that recently I've been talking more about vision in general lately. I'm going to answer some common questions and give you some facts. First, blindness is a spectrum. Only 10% of us see nothing, most have residual/some usable vision
Another day, another Swift Charts bug filed (FB20511076) Admittedly I'm doing something weird and making the chart do something mathematically undefined here, but if I found this crash in my first week of using Swift Charts, surely it has the potential of wasting someone else's debugging time too.
It turned out it doesn't matter what I use to store my integers, because I decided to add a Swift Chart, and BarMark converts integer x values to Doubles and back internally, so to avoid bugs and crashes I have to stick with integers less than 2^53. Which is fine as it's a weird toy app anyway.
Just submitted a Swift Charts bug FB20491693. Making minimal example projects is a fun puzzle, especially when they show that the bug isn't my fault. 😆 And helped me find a workaround for what is probably quite an edge case.
Reading this from the USA, I almost believed it. 😂
Yesterday we went to an event with Mary Roach for the second time this year. Her new book, Replaceable You, is about replacing various body parts. At the signing table afterwards, she was giving out little packets of tissues, saying, “I’m a tissue donor”. 😆
A small packet of tissues, with a sticker on it saying “Replaceable You” and “Mary Roach” with the art from the book cover — a face made up of multiple disconnected features (six eyes, three mouths, blobs of skin and hair)
I’m just starting writing an app that (among other things) concatenates integers, and obviously has trouble with that when the concatenated values don’t fit in an Int.

Joey said, “I couldn’t BigInt o tell you how to fix that.”

Strong contender for worst pun of the day, but I bet we can do worse.
If that’s a pseudonym of Tom Lehrer, then, unfortunately, no.

Joey and I sang the James Webb Space Telescope song, and I released a new version of Seddit with liquid glass controls.

I do a comic about ornithological vocabulary for every issue of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's wonderful Living Bird magazine. Here's the latest one, featuring the American Bittern.
A three-panel comic. The first panel is a scrap from a dictionary that says crypsis, noun: patterning or coloration that allows a bird to remain concealed by blending in to its environment. In panel 2, labeled effective crypsis, an american bittern blends in with a marsh full of tall plants. In panel 2, labeled ineffective crypsis, an american bittern fails to blend in among some short plants, next to a wet floor sign, and behind a stop sign.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

10 YEAR OLD ME IS LOSING HER MIND (a thread 🧵)
Just submitted a new version of my app Seddit to the App Stores (with liquid glass support, and a few fixes), a feedback (FB20362911) about an inconsistency I had to work around, and a pull request for a package I used.

Now to apply for some more day jobs.
For the past 24 hours, I’ve been getting a ‘you have new application updates this week’ from LinkedIn every two hours at about 13 minutes past the hour, with the exact same lack of updates in it each time. 🤔 They used to be weekly. Is this happening to anyone else?

You’re much closer to becoming disabled or homeless than you are to becoming rich and wealthy.

It’s not a moral failing. It’s not something you can “try harder” your way out of.

We need robust social supports & safety nets to ensure everyone is properly cared for.
