Broadly, it was ahead of the curve on it's observations about how the web was going to mess with culture, and how that *might* create some problems along the way. Forward thinking, sure, but not exactly earth-shattering.

I was telling my wife about how they made a Barbie of La Llorona, the vengeful ghost of a woman who drowned her own children and now roams for eternity dooming all who suffer the misfortune of hearing her mournful wails, and my wife stared at me blankly and asked if she was “known for anything else”

I see what the author is doing, and it's also a really, really stupid thing for a publication of any stripe to print as a serious statement. The Onion wouldn't publish this even as a joke.
