Happy Valentine’s Day all! ❤️ What could be more romantic than listening to me dragging Hernán Cortés for filth on #YDTM? I had a great time with Jen Brister & @gregjenner.bsky.social & even got to call William Prescott a dirty old man on the BBC 😂 What a result!

That’s amazing! Congratulations! So well deserved! 🥳🍾🥂
Scrumps are not an optional extra. Scrumps are just there for you to find at the bottom of the bag. That is the beauty of scrumps. What you are describing is a world in which scrumps are given out willy nilly, as if they are nothing special, and I want no part of it.
I want to know how galore was explained.
My husband also says scraps. You’re all WRONG 😂
Apropos of me getting a chippy tea because I am poorly and cannot be arsed to cook, what do you call the little crispy bits of batter at the bottom of a bag of chips?

The correct answer is OBVIOUSLY scrumps.
Being book lovers &/or historians doesn’t mean we’re entitled to any & all source material against an author’s will - no way those authors consented to their proofs being sold. Ethical practice is important. Proofs are not for public consumption & shouldn’t be used apart from for the review process.

The EU wasn't a bystander. It was an active perpetrator by virtue of its members supplyimg Israel with arms to commit genocide.

Today I learned there’s a penguin called Jane Goodall and she’s travelled 5000km since April.
A map of the east coast of South America, with several tracking lines, each representing a penguin. Jane Goodall’s line is highlighted in pale pink. There is also an inset with her facts and figures: body weight 4600g, tagged 25th April 2025, distance travelled 4769.3 km, average speed 2 kmh.

The right-wing campaign group that helped topple Roe v Wade in the US is now working to roll back abortion laws in the UK, with the help of Nigel Farage.

Its first step? Trying to create a debate around "free speech"

Counterpoint:

You absolutely do not have to hand it to enslavers
Wilson: Now, one of the things I want to do is say: I’m really glad that slavery’s gone, and good riddance. And I want to say that the Southern slave owner, who read the books of Ephesians and Colossians and 1 Timothy and treated his slaves decently, remembering that he had a master in heaven who he studiously tried to obey — what Paul said slave owners were supposed to do — I would say he was not an orc, and he is part of the reason why slavery ended. In other words, I would say he’s a good guy.

For all those who say TS needed to stay silent on the issues for safety, Hayley Williams went on the Tonight Show using art and her privilege to call out white supremacy to its face in direct view of the White House.

Y’all’s favorite was just on the Tonight Show. If they wanted to, they would.

I *really* want more reporting on this because the book was pretty heavily vetted by lawyers in advance of publication….
This is so damn scary. The book claimed that Jeffrey Epstein was the one who introduced Donald and Melania. Now the CEO of Harper UK is out.
In other news Charlie Redmayne, the long serving CEO of HC in the UK, resigned yesterday.
EVERYONE! STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND GO AND LOOK AT THE MOON! IT’S ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE!
RIP Jane Goodall
Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

As the first female Archbishop of Canterbury is appointed, it’s worth remembering that dissenting women were preaching to mixed sex congregations in London as early as 1645. My book Voices of Thunder has a whole section on 17th-century “she-preachers”

@zackpolanski.bsky.social nails it: "Britain is not broken because of migration. Britain is broken because of inequality. Because of an economy that allows billionaires to hoard wealth while millions struggle to get by. Because of a political class that has lost its nerve and forgotten its purpose."

I somehow missed the news of the horrific attack in Manchester yesterday. My thoughts are with the victims’ families and the Jewish community. Antisemitism is abhorrent and any attempt to justify such atrocities is disgusting.
Terrible news that two people were killed in Manchester attending their place of worship at the synagogue in Manchester, with others seriously injured.

Community Security Trust @cstuk.bsky.social who do so much to keep Jewish people safe at faith and community spaces have issued this advice.

Tony is many things but he isn’t a moron, so we can assume he can see exactly what kind of “peace” is being imposed upon the Palestinians and by what means, and we can instantly throw any charitable assumptions about his noble motives in the bin.

"He wants to be remembered for bringing peace to Palestine and Israel, rather than everything that happened in Iraq."
Tony Blair has a "long-term commitment" to peace in the Middle East - but is it to make change, or preserve his own legacy?
