*tbc: I worry about #MountainCats here in California— they’ve been pushed out by housing developers from nearly all their natural habitats for more than a century—and the past 30yrs of Human-driven climate change has exacerbated their plight. 🥺

Good question! Also hilarious to me, a #CA Native: These animals are genetically the same, with distinct (minimal) behavioral variations due to adaptations to regional environments.
jduffyrice.bsky.social
so no one was going to tell me that mountain lions and cougars are the same animal? as are pumas? and panthers?????????

🤣 Right? Also, he apparently has subject-matter expertise in an area that Err’body THINKS they’ve figured out. Kinda like all the WannaBe Journalism Experts that now are flooding the zone.

This morning I ran the NYC Gaza 5K in Prospect Park for the third time, alongside the Harlem Run Club, to raise money for @unrwausa.bsky.social, which delivers critical humanitarian aid and services to Palestinians in Gaza.

I hope you'll join me in donating: unrwausa.org

California Governor Gavin Newsom "vetoed a bill on Saturday that would have provided more transparency around the water usage of data centers, which regularly require millions of gallons of fresh water to cool their computers."
Gavin Newsom blocks effort to make CA data centers disclose water use. Why?
Data-center water usage can vary from 110 million gallons to 1.8 billion gallons per year.

Insightful thread on why the rallying cry “Buy American” tends to be hollow, or poorly-informed, as applied to clothing: The math for US’s shrinking garment industry just doesn’t Math. 👇🏾
dieworkwear.bsky.social
This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

In four hours, a robot named Isaac folded this reporter’s laundry. Total bill? $55. Of course this dubious StartUp is located in my hometown. sfstandard.com/2025/10/12/w...

….the StratComm and Marketing segment of #SiliconValley’s tech ecosystem hold degrees in Humanities fields, but they are not the builders and owners.
amyalexca.bsky.social
fwiw, the fact that #Thiel has a degree in philosophy is not a sign that #SiliconValley’s Tech ecosystem is occupied by lots of Humanities majors. Quite the contrary: From C-Suites to entry-level coders + engineers (before the layoffs happened) are overwhelmingly CompSci or Biz majors. Some of…

Nellie Bowles is the privileged heir of a #CA Robber Baron. She wields her sexual orientation (lesbian) as Cover for her RW sensibility. Hence, a Perfect spouse for the unethical #BariWeiss
sallyjenx.bsky.social
The Free Press has got some interesting writers. Charles Lane, for one. Kat Rosenfield. Nellie Bowles.

Really just stinks that someone who has done so much great journalism over a long career - including journalism that I grew up reading and enjoying - is running cover for a hack and propagandist who does not give a whit about journalism or its values.

TypoCorrex: I don’t care that she is a WW.
amyalexca.bsky.social
IDK that she is a WW, my objection to her new role is rooted in her lack of professional qualification to be EiC of a major American news org! She is a RW version of a “DEI hire.” Yeeesh.
amyalexca.bsky.social
Well, that’s a low bar, in terms of Journalistic standards. What is going on here? #Weiss is DEMONSTRABLY not an experienced Journalist, aka, a practitioner of fundamental reporting —fact-finding and the process of verification. Her having made FP into a cash machine is due to the outlet’s RW bias.
sallyjenx.bsky.social
Agree. She may become a Chris Licht. But she's no worse of an experiment.
slooterman.bsky.social
Not here to ratio you, but I am here to respectfully disagree. Building something as financially successful as FP is genuinely impressive, but it doesn’t necessarily demonstrate competence at running a real newsroom with real reporting and real journalism standards.

Who cares? God you act like you’re proclaiming how we turn water into wine. So you’re rooting for Bari Weiss. How daring! How bold! Such raw bravery! I bet you wear a hat that says “the NASDAQ” on it

Ratio me. Please. It's a badge of honor. If you don't like a link, go follow some chicken-heart who needs the approval of the thought-police. Caitlin Flanagan of @theatlantic.com is a tremendous writer and this piece is an excellent read. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
