It's a real full-circle moment because rhetoric that was refined in anti-trans propaganda is now being turned around to argue against gay marriage.

Note the renewed focus on children and the deployment of "biological parents" as a more-naturalized, more 'legitimate' category.

the federal government is arresting journalists not only without a warrant but after being explicitly denied a warrant

i wonder what our freedom of speech warriors like Matt Taibbi and Bari Weiss have to say about this

Students at the University of Minnesota, united with hundreds of groups across the country, are imploring people, young and old, to join a general strike on Friday.

No school, no work, no economic participation, all toward the goal of ceasing funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

just wanted to note that everything I’ve published today was written/recorded yesterday. no, this is not a true general strike, but any efforts that lead toward a nationwide work stoppage should be applauded and, where possible, participated in

the arrest of journalists in minneapolis, including don lemon, is more evidence that the only move the administration knows how to make is to use force, and does not know how to respond when that force is met with defiance and indifference.

“Independent” is doing too much work in this first wave. They are arresting journalists and just like everything else they’ve done, they’re testing the limits of our resistance by starting wt vulnerable margins.

So we will entrust the DOJ with enforcing the fake "reforms" that we will add to funding DHS...
Jeffries: "We cannot trust the Department of Justice. They're an illegitimate organization right now under the leadership of Pam Bondi and the direction of Donald Trump."

the practical effect of arresting lemon et al is to spark widespread condemnation, especially since these arrests will certainly be thrown out. this doesn't mean the action isn't a dangerous escalation, it does mean the white house doesn't know what to do but spam its only attack

Bondi directed federal agents to arrest four journalists.

Georgia Fort, Don Lemon, Jamael Lundy, and Trahern Crews.

All Black. All doing their jobs.

holy fuck
Don Lemon is not the only reporter who was arrested by federal agents overnight — local independent journalist Georgia Fort just went live on FB to say federal agents were also at her door to take her into custody over her protest coverage in Minneapolis.

We know our economic impact is negligible, all things considered, but even small efforts count (especially right now)

100 episodes, 2 years - I cannot believe how much every single guest, every game (and the designers behind them), and every single listener has meant to me.

I remember the day I got this job so vividly, and this episode has been a love letter to the entire experience.

That’s the crux of the problem with the Democrats demands too.

They’re primarily about making the public violence less reckless by redirecting ICE back toward immigrant communities.

It’s “this violence is unacceptable toward people like us” and not “this violence is unacceptable for everyone.”

The bulk of the national discourse is focused on preventing white people from getting caught in the crosshairs of ICE’s violence.

And the reason that feels so crazymaking in Minnesota is because we were organizing before Renee Good’s murder to protect people of color targeted by ICE.

The worst aspect of the current shit reformers is they aren't even pushing reforms. They are pushing for laws and policies that already exist right now and for many years now. None of this is new or changes anything. ICE is literally violating it all. This is reform without the reform.

I have been of the opinion for about five years now that we are all mostly clinging to the *idea* of social media. But that it has not existed, as we mean it, since Jack sold Twitter. The minute capital lined up to fold social media into its technocratic political consolidation, it stopped existing.

Also for those who want to talk about affordability more than anything else, your compromise is that ICE has $85 billion now. All of that money could go to people who need it!
Abolishing ICE is polling well and even polls positively with some Republicans at the moment. It could absolutely be a motivating and winning midterm issue that could flip control. Giving up before things even really start is a sure-fire way to keep people home.

Everybody in higher ed has questions these days. For example, admins ask "how can we get faculty to incorporate AI into their classes?" while faculty ask "can I come in to campus to teach my classes without being abducted by an unlawful paramilitary force?"
