Gods, the Scots have really got the breakfast down, haven’t they? Square sausage and an egg in a well fired roll? Magic.

(Don’t come at me about the time. It’s a Sunday.)

I’m back on Zoom duty today, but only on camera for a single panel. We’ve kicked off Imaginarium II, a celebration of east and south East Asian SFF creators put together by Lian Connect. @britfantasysoc.bsky.social handles the tech, so that’s me behind the scenes; iconic event team in spotlight 👋

Huge thanks to @laurenwrites.bsky.social and #WritingTheOccult for letting me come and rant about folklore and rural communities.

Really enjoyed what I was able to hear today, and looking forward to catching up on the other talks tomorrow.

Jokes aside, I'm seeing real consensus building around framing "The government paying for essential journeys by taxi" as some ludicrous wasteful spending.

If you've got a kid in special education who needs transport, you can bet these crosshairs are heading your way *real fucking soon*.

Using AI prompt generated images for anything professional at all makes you look instantly unprofessional. No one trusts anything you're saying or selling or pitching or proposing if you use it. Stop making yourself and your ideas look bad with this one easy step: never use AI generated images
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

She's 'too young' to be listened to and 'a child' but they'll drag a girl not much older than her through the courts then rule in favour of her notorious anti-trans abuser who ran a harassment campaign against her when she was 17? There's NO other way to read this than transphobia. 2/2

Finally the research has been published to prove that wild cat (Felis silvestris) lived in Ireland 5,500 years ago. Many claims over the years but the backup genetics was needed and a good number of bones have been recovered to provide enough material www.rte.ie/news/munster...
Wildcat bones found in Co Clare dated to 5,500 years ago
The first directly dated wildcat bones found in Ireland have been identified, confirming that the species inhabited the island more than 5,500 years ago.

Also, while I was poking about the internet about these books, I read part of an ancient review that described the murder mystery as the most conservative of genres, and it’s been troubling me.

Because there *is* something innately conservative about the genre, but I don’t think it’s necessary.

More on this - in both cases the victim is killed on their work premises, with an unrelated object from those premises placed upon them to make a point about their death/character in a way that may or may not be done by the murderer.
I mean, there are so many echoes between them that I always had them muddled in my head? Thought the company launch and the Thames tunnel were in A Certain Justice, and the fertility clinic was in Original Sin.

Y’know, I think I’m going to start grading painfully bad literary criticism on the internet. Not to the writer, or even publicly - that would both be mean, and open me up to similar attacks, as I too, have dreck ok the internet - but to myself, quietly: “I’d give it a low 2:2.”
