It's been hard to make time for fanfic, my joy. So I picked a short one to read before bed.

Netlfix keeps releasing 8 episode shows split into two parts with a month in between but I have an absolutely revolutionary idea where they could release an episode a week and it will equate to the same span of time.

in EVERY generation, lit that prioritizes women as its target audience is devalued. today’s booktok romantasy fare is not uniquely terrible or regressive, and not a sign heralding the end times of media literacy

THIS (and when Adam says, definitively, that if the writing is bad, there's only ONE way to deliver it, we all know 1) he is speaking from experience, 2) he'll never actually say which writer it was, but 3) we all KNOW which writer[s] it was 😂)

and neither can having good actors! if the writing's bad, it's bad.

you're flying under the radar! I wrestle with this too, but posting something is like throwing a stone into a sea; how far do the ripples go? is anyone there to see/feel them? how many OTHER stones all got tossed at the same time? it's so hard on your self esteem 🫂🫂🫂

Dear Canada: I hope at this moment in time you are either happily in a Thanksgiving food coma, or making serious progress toward being in one.

Aferah, for a personal project, 2017
Aferah, an illustration by Eleonor Piteira of a woman in profile standing on a desert. Framing her head is a gold sun like a halo, and her long dark hair becomes the night sky behind her, with two pale moons among the stars. On one hand she holds a 4 leaf clover and on another a gold cup tilted down, a gold river pouring from it.

I… still? Call numbers from memory? Like, all the time? It’s faster than searching my contacts 😂

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Happy Monday and a gentle reminder to those dealing with chronic illness to watch out for the October Slide.

This time of year can cause flare ups, increased symptoms and unexpected hits to your baseline.

It’s best to go slow. Be gentle. And know that you’re not alone.

the only issue with me having made 8 portraits for TLD is choosing which one to use to celebrate the anniversary of it being released in theaters 😂
