Do I know anyone in the SC area who knows someone (or *is* someone) who wants to adopt two cats? I desperately need to find a home for my parents' two cats. I already have three, so I can't take them. They are boarding at their vet while I look, and I have to go home to PA in less than a week.
Okay, so not just me..It sort of looks like Ted Baxter's hair in the Mary Tyler Moore show?
Is it me or is his hair different?
This table would have given St. Augustine a heart attack. 😂
That I couldn't speak to. Not my area of expertise! But there certainly is a lot of interest in Egypt across multiple groups in the West - and probably in other parts of the world, too, but I know even less about that.
I'll have to keep an eye out for that! And yeah, the things that remain consistent in a culture are always fascinating.
I hadn't heard of the Armenian thing but I am intrigued.
Oh, absolutely. I'm just never sure, given the vast abyss of history, how much a given ancient culture might have transformed BEFORE the written record came into play. At what point is a cultural lineage broken? Is it ever, short of a complete wipeout of the people?
I would also argue that there are probably through-lines to today. The Coptic language is still used liturgically, for example. Nothing every really goes away - it just hybridizes or transforms.
Not to my knowledge, but that concept slaps and I would read it.

😢 A stray who was hit by a car came into the shelter a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in sponsoring him to help with medical costs - which included leg amputation. His name is Hopscotch. www.instagram.com/p/DMjGYxOP9n...

Melvyn Bragg has been one of the last standard-bearers for a really important, and unfashionable, idea: that good conversation, between people who really know their stuff, on complex or difficult subjects, can be fantastic radio - and that the national broadcaster should do this.

I hope it endures.
Melvyn Bragg has decided to stand down as host of In Our Time, the BBC says.

IMPORTANT PSA: If you find kittens all alone, keep tbis helpful flowchart in mind. And also:
—neonatal kitten need to be on a heat source & kept warm at all times, they cannot regulate their body temperature and you can kill them by feeding a cold kitten.
—NEVER feed a bottle baby kitten COW’S MILK!

GenX-ers: look into getting the MMR vaccine again. For now you can just walk into the pharmacy for it.

Adults - check when your last whooping cough shot was. Sometimes when adults get a tetanus booster it doesn't include pertussis. Also make sure you've had at least two doses of MMR, the guidelines changed in 1989 so if you were born around then you might have missed a dose. (cont)
