The reason people think it was made up was because PSExtreme, who reviewed Bubsy 3D, was an obscure magazine even back in the day. The magazine does have issues archived online and they really did give the game a high rating and a Gold X Award in the December 1996 issue.

Someone, at some point, decided that they would find a way to make GBA games directly portable to ps1, then they started doing that. Another one is CT Special Forces -

Xbox 360 might have been strange after Xbox, but Microsoft could've gone the Atari route from there, and called the next Xbox the Xbox 720. Then, today, we'd have the Xbox 1080.
