Exhibit one gazillion that Congressional Democrats are completely unprepared for this moment and every single one needs to be primaried and replaced.
"House Democrats on Thursday voted to return Rep. Henry Cuellar to his leadership role on the House Appropriations Committee following his presidential pardon on federal corruption charges."

JICYMI - Shameful, repulsive move by House Democrats and their leaders. Disgraceful.

“We got ratified,” Cuellar told reporters after the vote.

I saw "House of 1000 Corpses" in a no-name theater in Binghamton New York and the print actually burned through mid showing
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

This isn't really satire. It's basically what happened, just written more clearly than we are accustomed to.
Sam Altman: hey I made a machine that stole literally all your stuff in order to make CSAM of your child actors, sometimes it encourages people to kill themselves

Disney: Holy shit here's a billion dollars

Altman: the machine loses more than that each week but thank you. Soon it will become god.

I am reading a really good set of reflections for my FYW classes.

The best I am really confident are real, and reflect real learning. I got to know these students. The work feels like theirs.

The worst... some of the worst are probably fake. But they are fake about the right ideas, so at least..

Every time I take pictures at the dead mall, me & the landlord do the same little dance. He rolls up to me in his Tesla and asks:
"What are you up to?"
"Taking pictures," I say
"Are you a photographer?"
"Yes"
"Oh, ok. Have a good one."
And he drives off.
I guess I'm a photographer now. #photography

The Voith-Schneider Propeller is a vertical-axis marine drive whose spinning blades change pitch continuously, letting a ship generate instant thrust in any direction, like a helicopter rotor underwater. Super-maneuverable, perfect for tugs and ferries.

The thing that's going to save us from (at least this generation of) generative AI is that every "content creator" at every level understands it is a dagger pointed at the heart of their already marginal business model, and their massive cultural power remains underappreciated.

The thing about the AI Bubble (and whatever you think of the long-term prospects of Machine Learning, the current data center build out is definitely a bubble) is I don't think it's driven by business logic. It's more like religious faith. They really think they are building god in their own image.

Every Democrat who voted for this should resign. Wtaf.
As Trump drags us into an Iraq-style war in Venezuela, 312 members of the House — including 115 Democrats — just voted to authorize over $900 billion in military spending.

On the one hand this is gross and exploitative.

But on the other, haven't language and media always been prone to necromancy? (See: Phaedrus, Victorian post-mortem photography, @greatdismal.bsky.social's "Agrippa: A Book of the Dead") web.archive.org/web/20181211...

I think all the time about how Ray Kurzweil's dad died young and then Kurzweil spent his entire life imagining a world where a magic moment would arrive where technology suddenly advanced so quickly he could somehow get his dad back.

It's very sad and very sweet, but that does not make it real.

Are we sure the backlash wasn't the point? Any publicity is good publicity, right? It wouldn't be the first time a company dropped an intentionally bad advertisement for the viral potential.
McDonald's has taken down a Christmas ad made with AI following online backlash

The company said the moment served as "an important learning" as it explored "the effective use of AI"
