In this Hubble image of galaxy NGC 4258, young stars show up in ultraviolet light, older stars in its core are white, and dust shimmies and scurries across the bottom in brown.

A portion of a large galaxy takes up the frame and is cut off at all edges, with the largest cuts at top and right. At center-right is the galaxy’s bright white oval core, which is seen at an angle. There is a dark brown dust lane that starts at lower left and ends in an arc toward the top right. Beyond that are light purple speckles, which are clusters of stars, that take a rough halo shape. The light from the core extends just beyond the first “halo” of purple stars. Toward the top and left edges are smaller, finer purple stars scattered in a few places, but a lot less structure overall. The background of space is black.

Some bleeding hearts for #MacroMonday from a garden near Rochester, NY last May. I'm looking forward to the flowers, insects and birds returning.
Photo is of three pink flowers slightly overlapping from front to back. Each flower looks like a pink heart that is splitting at the bottom. The pink part is earlobe shaped with a small, upward turned tail at the bottom. Those earlobes form a heart. Coming down from the v split in the heart is a white stem with a wider part at the bottom that looks like a droplet when seen from the front. That white droplet sits below the heart and it's about as long as the top pink parts would be if they were together.

Among the most beautiful of #astronomyimages is the view of the Pleiades - a cluster of stars ~450 lightyears away, that are moving through are region of dust and gas, which reflects their light with a blue glow.

Super friendly boat-billed heron I got to take photos of in Feb 2022 at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh, PA.
Photo is of a bird standing up about the size of a rugby ball. It has a very wide, flat-ish but thick bill that's dark gray colored, but not shiny because it's a bit dirty. The cheeks, forehead, and stomach of the bird are peach colored. The top of its head from the forehead and over the shiny, black eyes all the way down the back of the head has dark slate colored feathers. Its wings are folded behind and they are a light gray. The same dark slate colors appear on some feathers that are on either side of its body, in front of the wings and hanging down towards the legs. The legs are light tan and there's a blue leg band at the bottom of each one.

Hoag's object, a near perfect ring galaxy. On the outside are bright blue stars, whilst the middle contains likely older redder stars.

At about 7 o'clock in the dark space in between, is another more distance ring galaxy!
