In the very early days of Nazi rule local law enforcement would sometimes intervene if a local was being threatened by Nazis acting unlawfully. There was still an idea that the law mattered. That didn’t last long.
Not saying things will get that bad here but we seem to be in a similar stage.

First of all, this judge is a hero.
Secondly, my god this is egregious conduct. Imagine being this judge, driving this poor kid home, only to have ICE threaten to smash your car windows on your way out of the lot??

One of the books groups I particpate in read Richard Rohr's The Tears of Things. I am pretty ambivilent toward Rohr and I wouldn't have chosen to read it without the group. But I do think that it was worth reading and one of Rohr's better books.

I am a long term fan of the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny. I have read most of the books more than once. But I continue to be disappointed that the series has shifted from a cozy mystery series to a conspiracy theory based thriller series.

I am a long term fan of the series. Most of the books I have read more than once. But starting at about the eighth book there has been a shift from a mystery series to a thriller series. There are some books in the last dozen that have had more mystery elements than thriller elements, but most of those books have shifted from mysteries where Gamache and those around him follow clues and psychologically gain an understanding of the perpetrator, to thriller elements where the point is unfolding tension. Along with that thriller element, a natrual shift has been to make Gamache more and more of a traditional hero.
