Looks like it's Dupage, my county.

Three more maps: share naturalized citizen, share not a citizen (legality not distinguished), and share native (citizen born in the US).

Note that the scales shift based on the ceiling (i.e., don't rely on color alone).

Yes. County level data showing percent of people who were born in the state they reside in.

I think this map is so fascinating (US Census, American Community Survey Data).

We are living in parallel realities. The epistemic chasm is just so vast.

And it’s not just those on the MAGA right. Increasingly seeing stunning ignorance of the right from those on the left.

The isolation is killing us.

That’s a pretty cynical take

Beloved, this isn't Christianity. MAGianity is a weird fusion of Christ, country, and culture war that views sees the boycotts on Budweiser on part with the eschatological return of Jesus.

Eric Trump: "We're saving Christianity. We've saving God. We've saving the family unit. We're saving this nation. I mean, DEI is out of the window, Benny. You no longer have Colin Kaepernick kneeling for the national anthem. You no longer have Budweiser going woke as hell. All of this is dead."

That would be so sad. Because it’s so good

Spent a bit scrolling Twitter, and I don’t know how folks are still on there as their primary and staying sane.

If you haven’t watched the videos of ICE harassing and abusing people, you should. Even a few. Because this thuggery is happening all over. Probably in your city.

It’s not a problem “over there,” it’s here.

And if we don’t expose and bring to light, who will?

I’m old enough to remember when being an American meant you were fundamentally opposed to tyranny, oligarchy, and suppression of free speech
bobstevenson.bsky.social
What’s more concerning though are the folks who are seeing it and cheering. Because they just hate brown people
bobstevenson.bsky.social
In terms of brain drain, population growth, etc, yeah.

Oh, also American exceptionalism, the American Dream and all that.

It’s so gross.

Important piece. I’ve seen this kind of thing firsthand. The carelessness and cruelty is so pervasive right now. It immensely unjust.

ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

Was with some folks this week, and the toxicity of social media came up a lot.

While social media is…well, a mess, I couldn’t help but wonder whether their experience was mainly fb or twitter. Because in my exp, Bsky has so much less rot.

Sure it’s not perfect, but so much better.

Good morning friends. Jesus is alive, and that makes all the difference in the world.

Take heart.
