After viewing the special, George Lucas hired Nelvana to make the animated sequence for The Star Wars Holiday Special.
As for the film, it was submitted for consideration for the Best Animated Short Academy Award. It was not picked up for a nomination.

On Dec. 4, 1977, CBC aired an animated special called A Cosmic Christmas.
It was one of the first productions by a Canadian studio that later brought us Inspector Gadget, The Edison Twins and The Care Bears.
It also led to the creation of Boba Fett.
