Or is there a way for Chloé to have the best of both worlds? The first thing you learn as a figure skater is how to fall. It seems like something you wouldn’t have to learn. If you're standing on a slippery surface wearing blades three millimetres thick, you're going to fall. What you're learning is the proper technique to fall. This way, you help avoid serious injury, and you orient yourself in the right position to get up quickly. What CanSkate classes don't teach you, however, is how to recover when you've fallen so far you can't even begin to figure out how to get back up. Exactly how far have I fallen? Two thousand, four hundred and forty-four kilometres from my hometown of Montreal according to the Maps app on my phone. Sitting on the couch of my best friend's apartment in Florida, waiting to hear back about my audition for the skating show she's been begging me to join for the past year. I ended up writing nearly 4000 words in THE GAMES OF LOVE on Friday. Up over 30K now and public sentiment is starting to turn in Gen’s favor. Now Aiden just needs to figure out how to get Gen to feel the same way about him as he does about her.

"My problem," she says, turning back to me and throwing the bouquet to the ground, "is that I got married to someone I've spent my whole life trying to beat, and now even if I get the gold medal I want, I have to share it with him, and the whole world is going to see these stupid pictures and see us skate together and imagine what we're doing behind closed doors and even though we won't be doing any of that, it fucking bothers me, okay?" Patrick starts to walk over toward us and I run my hand back and forth across my neck to signal to him to stay right where he is.

"Hey, I will have you know that Russian women are skilled lovers," says a voice from behind. I turn around to see we've been joined by Natalia Vasilyeva, the lone Russian in our cast. "You will never experience thrills like that again, Golden Girl." "The French are much better in bed than the Russians," Genevieve says. "Are you offering to prove it to the Golden Girl?" Kloe asks, as my cheeks turn redder than my dress. "Désolée Chloé," Genevieve says, "you are not my type." "What's your type, Chloé?" Beth asks with a mischievous grin on her face. She fucking knows the answer and she's setting me up. Sitting at a table here with all these beautiful tall blondes. Kloe, Genevieve, Natalia, and of course the tallest of them all, Freja. Thankfully a fresh glass of tequila arrives to save me. I down it even quicker than the last one, then get up from my chair.

So far only one use of “member” (that isn’t part of remember) in THE GAMES OF LOVE, in which I just hit the 100-page mark last night.
"I'm kinda chilly to be honest," he says. "Then again, I'm not the one who had four glasses of wine at dinner." He smiles at me. I laugh and playfully slap him on the chest, then drape my arms around his shoulders and kick up my right leg. As soon as I hear the telltale click of the shutter on Georgina's cameraphone, I drop my grip. "I had three glasses," I clarify. "No, you had four," Aiden says. I close my eyes and think, and I think he might be right. Shit. Well, at least that helps explain why he suddenly looks so attractive to me. Alcohol has always been my kryptonite when it comes to hooking up. I shudder to think about the time I did tequila shots after a Grand Prix in Finland and ended up in bed between two members of a Finnish ice dance team. At least they didn't speak English or French, so it made ghosting them in the morning relatively easy. I can't exactly do that with Aiden, not if I want that gold medal.

Decided to go through the lineup for US Nationals and my photo library to confirm this: of the 62 senior entries in St. Louis (men’s, women’s, pairs and ice dance), I’ve seen 40 in person already this season. Only 18 of the 57 junior entries though.

"It's fine, Anastasia, I'm used to this bullshit." "Stacy! If you're married to my bestie, you need to call me Stacy!" She's a grown woman who uses the word "bestie." I cannot. I don't want to be "besties" or even friends with her. Though if I'm being honest with myself, befriending her would up my friend count to... well, one. I was so focused on competing throughout my skating career, from the time I was a little kid, that I never really developed friendships. I'd considered Peter my friend when we were skating together, but we haven't spoken in more than two years.

I start with an idea, and just plow right into writing an opening chapter. From there I bounce between writing freely and taking lots of notes on ideas for where to take the story. Eventually those notes start taking the form of a loose plan for future chapters.

I start to get up from the couch to make my way to my bedroom but Gen reaches out and stops me. "Aiden, you look fine," she says. And looking in her eyes, those incredible green eyes, I feel like she might actually be telling the truth. But "fine" isn't nearly good enough next to her. "At least let me throw on a tie." "No." She reaches up to my shirt, where my top button is already undone, and pops the second one open as well, pulling the sides apart to show off more of my chest. "There, now your look is giving less 'high school teacher trying to be cool' and more 'sexy single dad.'" She tousles my hair too, giving it a bit more of a messy look than how I typically style it. "You look good, Miller. If I didn't know you, and wasn't already married to you, I might even consider hitting on you."

I don't speak Mandarin, so I can't react to the initial reading of the scores. But then the English language version comes in. "Genevieve Cartier and Peter Palmer have scored 149.75 points. They are currently in second place." No, I must have misheard them. That can't be right.

Spite fueled me to work on my debut novel, where I poured in all the fury, anger, sadness, confusion, rage and pain that I started feeling at 14 after I bled for the first time and began experiencing period shame, stigmatization, gaslighting and more.
