these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

A neat goose hybrid posted to ‘What’s this Bird?’ but when you zoom in on the photos the bill details have been too manipulated by AI photo editing to be accurately assessed for which species may be involved. Scroll on… A cool-looking Red-tailed Hawk that someone is wondering which subspecies it might be - right up my alley! But when you zoom in on the photos literally every feather group has been so heavily manipulated and altered by AI editing that it’s impossible to determine subspecies because the photo is essentially fake now; just a mashup of whatever AI thinks parts of a Red-tail should look like. Scroll on… WOW! That’s a remarkable trail cam photo of a Bobcat! It almost looks like a painting!… but the head looks oddly small…. hmmmm. After some prodding the original photo is produced and sure enough it had been so heavily altered by AI ‘post processing’ that the photo posted was essentially a digital mock-up with totally different proportions and fur markings. No longer the photo off the trail cam; it may as well have just been ‘created’ by AI from scratch. This stuff is killing me. My days on social media are becoming very limited. We can’t even trust simple, everyday photos of animals to be real. The wildlife community needs to quit editing with AI, and we need to start calling out photographers that are using it. Our reality is being destroyed all around us.

I continue to be such a hater of cinematic trailers

I get why they exist, but I just don’t feel like they give me any of the info *I* want to know about an upcoming game.

These days, if I see a game trailer, I will skim for actual gameplay frames first before I bother watching the full thing.

I post a lot of ref and most struggle to get past ten likes and that’s with me manually re sharing it and trying to boost it on the timeline a lot for each post then we got this one with over a thousand simply cos it was shared. Sharing posts is how anything has a chance to be seen.

there’s a mod on the steam workshop for Civ 7 Santa & Christmas narrative events! the mod maker said this about how easy it was, which is great to hear — I designed the system this way for enthusiastic non-coders to be able to make their own events, so I’m thrilled it’s working for those people!

As someone interested in making event mods, how difficult would you say that the process is? malexlee OP • 2d ago I gotta say, as someone who has no real coding background, it's not too hard, and it's a nice creative outlet honestly! If you want to get started, l'd recommend taking my mod files from Steam, and just start replacing text, values, and modifiers to make it your own, and then publish it via the Civ 7 development tools uploader when you feel good about it. Using some free software like notepad + + is helpful for interpreting the files, and almost everything in my mod was just ideas or code I took from the base game and rearranged. If you end up doing this, let me know and I'll amend my code in the first event with some explanations of the basics I've managed to figure out. TLDR: All that's to say, I think it's pretty easy for novices like us, and quite fun!

Just saw someone describe this place as “poisonous” and, well, my dude, it’s what you make it.

My feed is just rammed with cool weird cars, animals, sci-if, art and woodworking. You’ve got to be free with those block and mute functions.

I find this place is very much a mirror.
