An insane, perfect encapsulation of it all:

The same day Trump’s agents kill a Veterans Affairs ICU nurse in broad daylight, the CEOs of Apple and Amazon join Trump to watch a private screening of a film about his wife directed by an alleged sexual abuser who was seen shirtless in the Epstein Files

Got a $1720 hospital bill for my kid's nasal hemorrhage. It was a pretty scary amount of blood, but turned out to just be a bad nose bleed. Maybe made worse by how upset she was.

It's fucked up that there's no way of knowing how much it cost upfront.

The Hyatt Place I'm staying at has translucent bathroom doors, which is the dumbest idea. Impossible to use at night without making the room super bright for other people.

This is actually the perfect time for that conversation
“Do we have the inherent right to disagree with the government?” is a question almost every patriotic American can answer reflexively and yet we never have a conversation about how Trump’s answer to that question depends on whether he is in power.

It seems to me that Mamdani has a Trumpian instinct for gaining attention. But substituting thoughtfulness, empathy, and hope for Trump's narcissism, sociopathy, and spite.
I don’t like that line at all. I would be strongly disinclined to support someone who said it. But it’s not like Mamdani’s opponents support individualism. Their slogan is “obey the dear leader, conform to conservatism, and send the garbage back where they came from.”
“We will replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.”

Insightful thread
This is a huge bear signal for BlueSky and makes it pretty clear the platform is default-dead on its current trajectory. If @jay.bsky.team was smart she would DM @moskov.goodventures.org and ask him to introduce her to the DNC contacts that are willing to pay to analyze and influence the Dems base.

As we bring in the New Year today, I have some bittersweet news to share...Today will be my last day working on Bluesky as a part of the core team.

The past two years that I have been here have been an absolute blast and undoubtedly will be a few of the most memorable of my life...1/x

I've been saying for the better part of a year that Trump is on a mission to decriminalize corruption. To make it the legal equivalent of jaywalking.

I feel that more strongly now than I ever had.

I’ve been disturbed ongoingly by how many people seem to express glee every time a case of sexual violence or exploitation is in the news, as if it’s a gotcha of the bad guys to feel superior about. We have to be able to face and address this violence not play it for clicks…and I donno…

So many vulnerable people were hurt, harassed and raped by these ghouls and now—I’m worried—it’s gonna become hehe haha lurid internet circus instead of a long overdue moral reckoning. I’m scared of who we all are becoming. That man has brought us ALL low.

Damn. I relate to this so much. My cousin being murdered when I was a teenager was the catalyst for my descent from depressed misfit to a much darker place.
In addition to the persistent bullying he experienced, Zeremiah Smith struggled to reconcile with the death of his 21-year-old cousin Deswaund Bell—known affectionately as ‘Des,’ who died from a fatal gunshot at a gas station on University Boulevard in 2016.
