I very much agree with this - I’m not sure it was intentional either, despite all the discussion about the need for left unity recently. But either way it’s an excellent test case for the idea.

Oh yes, I remember that show - it was good. And definitely made Hebdige the only cultural theorist I know of who had a TV show structured around his work (sort of)!

Well of course I don’t want anyone here to experience that again! I remember only-half-joking conversations with friends at work about stories from Russia c.1992 when doctors/teachers were selling cakes at markets cos the state hadn’t paid them for 3 months. It didn’t seem entirely impossible here.

This happened exactly the same in semester 1 last year too. I never know how long it’s going to take me to get to work and I don’t know when I’ll be home. It’s REALLY stressful.

These were all in my school library. And I can still see why I found most of them quite unsettling! They seem a v different affect from most of the other Ladybird illustrations (perhaps fittingly, cos a lot of fairytales are also quite unsettling!)
