I believe voter knowledge is enhanced by compulsory voting as we very proudly have in Australia. When everyone turns out to vote periodically, we tend to try and inform ourselves on what we’re voting for. It also reinforces citizens’ responsibility for political engagement as part of a democracy.

Yes they did. I’m Australian. We have compulsory voting and it’s one of the great strengths of our electoral system. It’s far more representative; and it avoids candidates having to divert effort to turning out voters. I hope the U.S. one day legislates for it too.
