I can't emphasize enough that what we have here is a fight over the federal govt's very ability to regulate.

Humphrey's itself was played on the good-government battlefield that Brandeis set up in his Myers dissent, but he only won because his anti-regulatory colleagues wanted to stick it to FDR.
The practical effect of overturning Humphrey’s will be that Republican presidents can stack the formerly independent agencies with their copartisans and SCOTUS will be cool with everything they do but when a Dem POTUS does the same Roberts et al will declare all those agencies’ actions unlawful.
In a memo John Roberts wrote just 4 yrs out of law school, he said the “time may be ripe to reconsider the existence” of independent agencies & bring them back into the executive branch. Now he’s poised to end what he has long called “a constitutional anomaly.”

Supreme Court poised to expand Trump’s power over independent agencies
A ruling in favor of Trump’s position has been expected by legal experts because the justices have been chipping away at a precedent known as Humphrey’s Executor.

our bluesky safety manager replied with this to a woman venting after ICE kidnapped her husband, and then banned her.

How do we trust this person to have the empathy needed to be in charge of safety on this website? what the fuck?

This is the way, y’all—we protect each other, and we know it.

That's how far this window has shifted because supposed "allies" are failing to push back against these folks.

NEW— DC Metropolitan Police just shared a tiny bit more body cam footage from the March US Institute of Peace raid in response to my FOIA lawsuit w/ @rcfp.org

One clip shows USIP President George Moose being escorted out.

Moose: You know we're gonna see you all in court.
MPD: Yea we figured that.

I'll be blunt; if we're wrong and they overturn birthright citizenship then my biggest fear is that we're on the path to a new civil war. After all, that's what happened with Dred Scott 1.0, and this would be Dred Scott 2.0.
I don’t necessarily disagree with this prediction, but I do think it would be helpful for people if litigators and legal scholars wrote about what happens if they’re wrong and the court does rule in the administration’s favor
To give some sense of why I am so confident about this, I have talked to MANY other litigators on these issues, some of the top people in the country, and my views are almost universally held. The broad consensus among pretty much everyone I know is that the Court will rule against him on this.

I don't care if a non-disabled person accesses a disability accommodation for the same reason I don't care if a child whose parents are rich gets free lunch at school. We don't need to means test being a kind person. I have better things to do with my time than be a cop over social services.

It’s wild how much energy is going into attacking disability accommodations but not “AI” systems that are actually degrading critical thinking skills that would be tested with or without extra time
Even by the standards of The Atlantic, this is an extraordinarily weak evidence base for an article.

Data from a tiny handful of schools that isn't measuring the variable at issue and a few thin, secondhand anecdotes.

I think all the boat strikes are illegal, but I'm glad there seems to be consensus that the second strike is illegal and a war crime.

But that also raises a question- why haven't double tap strikes with US missles by Israel elicited similar outrage from DC?

Even people who fully passed the citizenship exam are having their cases put on hold, just inches from the finish line.
Scoop: The Trump administration has paused all immigration applications filed by people from 19 countries banned from travel to the United States earlier this year, halting green card and U.S. citizenship processing for broad swaths of people.

More coming soon.
