Caffeinated bodybuilder. Highly talkative. Enthusiastic gig-goer, long-term internetter. Chaotic dropspinner. Any/any.
This is an excellent thread, and if I might add, with care, that I think our academic staff are also all exhausted as well, by so many things that were not always a part of their role, as well as the pressure and precariousness of academia. Students feel that, too - the whole environment is fraught.
I have been reading all the "students these days" threads from various sides and I have an essay's worth of thoughts -- there's a lot of complexity and heterogeneity that is hard to communicate on social media. There are a couple of things I will say here though. 1/

Skunk Anansie supporting My Chemical Romance, whilst feeling like something that should in a sense be the other way around, would still be an absolutely cracking night out

Update: stopped at 8am on the dot. @silverthorpe.bsky.social pointed out that you have to remember the amount of witches that live here...
Glastonbury's Frost Fayre today, with outside stalls and stages across the town, and it is the worst possible driving rain and gusty winds this morning. Events know about weather here, obviously, this is a marsh town, but still, I feel for everyone.

Watching Withnail and I for the first time in about four years and I probably say every line of this film at some point at least weekly, it is ridiculous how quotable this is.

Green Party continuing to win bits of my affection, and again, it's not an affection contest, but I LIKE feeling affectionate towards politics, instead of steaming biliousness.

Completed #StrangerThings - I very much like the way it is up front, transformative work with its references, it is a great example of building with cultural building blocks, rather than just chucking them at the audience and shouting REMEMBER THIS?

This year I actually checked and Clea DuVall IS an only child which explains a lot about why this film is so so good at some hyper-specific things
It is officially time for the only holiday film to welcome in the festive times: The Happiest Season! Which means it is also time to check once more, why on earth hasn't Clea DuVall yet updated us as to when we can have the sequel to this perfect, perfect film I must have more of?

annual caveat that it is NOT WEIRD to bring your friend/roommate/stray only child/anyone to your family Christmas, it is LOVELY and such a wonderful kindness and just really really not weird

Update: things went okay! Phew.
Anyway, I've got some stuff I'm really not looking forward to today and so I for one would like to thank Netflix for making this Happy Stranger Things day, appreciated. Episode 1 before work, Episode 2 with lunch...

The Etsy ads are so grim, I know they aren't interested in fostering a positive shopping from small makers/artist culture any more, but I do find it a depressing indication of the State of Things.

It’s so revealing that the media seems to be more outraged by the mansion tax than freezing the income tax thresholds.

(to be clear, I think absolutely everyone should pay for the roads, and I don't think EVs should be overweight juggernauts that smash up roads and car parks, I just would like to know how they're going to go about this and think that it penalises rural drivers with zero public transport options)

"From 2028, I am introducing a high value council tax surcharge in England. An annual £2,500 charge for properties worth more than £2 million, rising to £7,500 for properties worth more than £5 million."

I remember when the Budget was such a civilised, normal, informative piece of TV that even P used to put it on and watch. This is so tiresome.
