Alright, let’s do this:

The Top 60 New-To-Me Films for 2024.
Shaping up to be one of the best filmgoing months in years. Seeing WAKE UP DEAD MAN tonight, SENTIMENTAL VALUE possibly this weekend with AVATAR, MARTY SUPREME and TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE at the end of the month, with RESURRECTION and SECRET AGENT thrown in for good measure. Da movies!

Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, without blinking.
This is a Bill Simmons game, but you’re stranded on a desert island. You can only have one actor’s filmography. You get it all, including cameos. But just the one performer.

I’m taking Cate Blanchett: Talented Mr. Ripley, LOTR, Life Aquatic, Black Bag, Tár, Ponyo, Hot Fuzz, Eyes Wide Shut, Thor

One of the hackneyed dead horses that needs to be retired from film criticism is the notion that Kubrick isn’t funny. The way this movie makes Brian Lyndon the most comically angelic child in the world before *spoiler* happens is something that would fit on The Simpsons.
After the Bills game it’s time to give the BARRY LYNDON 4K a spin

The latest rewatch of THE LAST WALTZ had me wondering if this is the greatest scene in any Scorsese movie. Just absolute magic. youtu.be/ccJTFXvkXkA?...

Peter Jackson you will not see heaven
Jesus Christ, the "remastered" Beatles Anthology documentary they re-released is filled with AI slop. Look at John and Paul's faces, and the "T" on Beatles.

You people shouldn’t be allowed to watch MARTY SUPREME a full calendar month before I can (same goes for ANN LEE)

Watching DRIVE-AWAY DOLLS again and this movie remains a delight, also Ari Wegner shoots the hell out of it

Listened to The Dead’s famed Cornell ‘77 concert in the car today. At first I didn’t understand the fuss but once the jams started it is truly stellar. Amazing how easily they incorporated disco grooves into their soup of inspiration. Also those Godchaux/Garcia harmonies are magic.

It’s so streamers like Netflix can cancel shows they just plain don’t like and claim it’s because of ratings, and everyone will take them at their word like chumps.
The grodiest shit of the 21st century is the willful obfuscation of entertainment data. From this, every dogshit decision about “content” and “metrics” flows like a river of piss
This is innumerate nonsense. An average of 1.1 million people were watching The Simpsons throughout its entire thirty-minute broadcast according to a third-party data company contracted to measure viewership by Disney. Somebody, no way to know who, hit the play button 1.7 million times on Twitter

Saw the trailer for the new Glen Powell A24 thing and boy do we need a moratorium on “eat the rich” movies in the worst way.

I remember in college I was given an application to Entertainment Weekly’s summer internship program, I was about to apply until I got to the part about it being completely unpaid and with no supplied housing and how does a not-rich person survive that
If you're ever wondered why journalists seem so out of touch most of the time it's because in order to establish yourself you need to either come from money, marry into money, or be OK with abject poverty and daily financial panic

That third thing is unsustainable long-term

I can see SENTIMENTAL VALUE this weekend, might also hit WAKE UP DEAD MAN on Monday
