Lover of stories in all forms of media, and their tropes. Well, not literally, or at least not sexually. Also self-deprecating and absurd, in case you couldn’t tell. He/Him

You can purchase a copy of The BEASTS OF BURDEN OMNIBUS for the holidays. It exists.

You can pre-order a copy of NERD INFERNO for the holidays.
It looms.

Over 1,200 pages of stuff my fingerprints are on.

It’s lucky that kid will also have a human nanny, because rich asshole. Anyone else who tries to raise a baby with ChatGPT is going to end up with a dead baby.
Jimmy Fallon: "And do you use ChatGPT when raising your baby?"

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

I was going to put on Violent Night, but I realized I’d never seen Fatman. Walt Goggins as an assassin out to kill Santa is what’s making this work so far.

We were watching a Muppet Christmas Carol and talking a lot about how much amazing work goes into the puppets. The credits rolled and we got to the credit line for “Muppet Milliner” and my friend spontaneously said “you know what….fuck AI to death.”

Fell down a rabbit hole on YouTube, and at the bottom of the hole discovered that Matthew Lesko is not only still around, he’s still doing his schtick. I don’t know why that pleases me, but it does.

Film you’ve seen more than six times. Hard mode: no Star (Wars or Trek,) LOTR, or Marvel.

A primary purpose of Disaster Films is to provide an opportunity for us to safely explore our collective anxieties together, but now more and more, we are expected to process our collective anxieties alone.

Seems bad?

This sure sounds judgmental about what is and is not culturally normal…
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Thursday that the Democratic Party needed to be “more culturally normal” and “less judgmental.”

Holy shit, Titan A.E. Is on Bezos Prime!

(For those that don’t know, Don Bluth made an animated SF action movie that was damn good but bombed horribly. You should check it out.)

Holiday Hot Take Number 6:

If you're going to invoke Eartha Kitt's groundbreaking song "Santa Baby," you better fully commit to wanting to fuck Santa. No pronoun changing, no "Santa Pally," no fully meaning chimney without the double entendre.

Commit. I'm lookin at you, Bublé.

I’m reminded that on my way home, someone randomly came up to me and said:

“Do you know what happens to bad rainbows? They get sent to prism.”

“But they usually get a light sentence.”

And then they just walked away…

Quality article. Though I did take note of one line: “Hammett was writing at a time when municipal law enforcement was deeply and routinely corrupt, almost comically so.” So… last week?
I've been dying to write this for a long time. I love crime fiction and detective fiction; it's how I prefer to relax. I reject the idea that it has to be conservative or reactionary, and Jacobin was kind enough to let me write this essay extolling why we can't surrender this terrain.
We Need More Leftist Crime Fiction
Critics of crime fiction dismiss the genre as hopelessly reactionary, but its history tells a different story. From hard-boiled American detective novels to the explosion of Scandi-noir, crime fiction...

They said they would be here sometime between two and four.

I mean, I’m getting paid, but…
We get our deliveries on Friday, and I’m usually out by 1:30.

It’s 3:45, and the truck isn’t here yet. Plus side, I’m being paid to do nothing. Minus, I have my D&D group coming by in 2 hours.

This, but also the main platform for WWE just bought the main platform for AEW. This is a de facto monopoly on wrestling. I think Tony Khan should sue.

The road to hell is paved with the consolidation of intellectual property into fewer and fewer hands. Goddamn Netflix.
If there is a Warner Bros. movie you love and you don't have on physical media then do not hold off getting it while you still can.

Absent an official source for the volume of 1 kilo of cocaine, I did find one reference (now unsupported because link-rot) saying that pure cocaine, pressed for transportation, has a mass/volume of 1.2g/cm³.

Seawater comes in at 1.03g/cm³

Archimedes says cocaine sinks.

This is succinct and inarguable.
The attacks on trans rights, which are basic human rights, are a terrible injustice and an attack on truth and fact as well. Everyone should be deeply alarmed and it should be disqualifying for a politician to support such discrimination.
