In 1945 he was discharged from the hospital together with his mate and they walked back to Western Germany. Which is a long walk. He owed his life to the staff of that hospital.

My grandfather on my mother's side was hospitalised in Ukraine 1944 due to a shrapnel wound and met someone from his hometown by chance. Soon after the hospital was overrun by the Red Army. He bribed one of the Ukrainian nurses so he was declared unfit for transport to a POW camp.1/2

I can do different stages on different days. What seems like witchcraft to me is people like @daemonrich.bsky.social painting the left foot on one day and the right wrist on another and somehow everything comes together as a whole.
