Yes, and the answer is to have an actual opposition party. Not GOP-lite candidates who have lost to an authoritarian twice now because they keep trying win over a few undecided Republicans they think are out there somewhere.

I used to wonder why people didn't vote, and gotta say I don't wonder anymore.

Meanwhile, candidates keep trying to appeal to the Empty Bowl of the middle... in a time when we're more divided than ever... and then blaming non-voters for not voting while giving them nothing to vote for.

It's an old story but I'll tell it again: Back in 2007 I used to wonder why I put up with assholes in my social circle.

Then I realized I didn't have to.

I made it a policy to exclude them and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

Harris/Walz was a breath of fresh air and a much needed change until about two weeks later when Democratic "strategists" said "hey the campaign's going great, here's some changes you should make to appeal to the dozen or so mythical middle-of-the-road voters out there" and the campaign fizzled out.

Years ago, I saw a book titled something along the lines of "Weather Balloons Make Awful Sex Toys," and all I could think of is if you think a weather balloon is an awful sex toy, you're using it wrong.
