grateful portland has risen to the challenge so far in peacefully protesting the ICE facility and that nationally we're all cheering on the frogs but I think it's important to make sure everyone is aware that the ICE goons aren't exactly being peaceful in return

For the most part, Seattle has simply cut this out by moving to a webinar format for online meetings, where you can submit questions but not speak out of turn, and an open house drop-in format for in person meetings.

It's so hard to watch n'hood residents treat city/agency staff like garbage at meetings just because they disagree w a street design proposal. We need mediators or some staff who enforce basic, respectful meeting laws. I'm tired of staff being talked over and disrespected. It's not OK!

Monster energy drink is not a "functional substitute" for coffee.
theatlantic.com
Tariffs have rapidly increased the price of coffee—a drink with almost no nutritional value and lots of functional substitutes. Yet coffee may also be the one thing Americans can’t live without, @elcush.bsky.social writes:
The Drink That Americans Won’t Give Up Without a Fight
Coffee has almost no nutritional value and lots of substitutes. It’s also, apparently, too important to lose.

Increasingly in government settings, "psychological safety" is actually a major workplace safety concern. Public facing public workers take a lot of abuse and it's having significant detrimental effects on govt effectiveness and the public service workforce.

Interesting video on the installation of ballast-less tracks on prefab slabs at Roma Termini. A first of its kind in Italy for a surface station.

A bill to raise billions for roadwork and public transit – and avert hundreds of state employee layoffs in the process – is sitting on Gov. Tina Kotek’s desk, unsigned. Kotek suggested Monday that it might stay that way until Nov. 12, her deadline to sign or veto the bill.
Oregon Gov. Kotek is in no rush to sign her own transportation funding bill
Each day Kotek waits gives opponents less time to send tax hikes to voters.

Mill Creek Residential Trust has been one of the more active developers in Portland, but it's years now since they've broken ground on a new project here. The fact that they're again looking into doing so is a good sign. www.bizjournals.com/portland/new...

Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

Everything is stupid and dangerous right now, *but* we have an opportunity to make a least one thing less stupid and dangerous.

Please submit a comment to the PDX city planners asking them to prevent any further expansion of liquid fuel storage at the CEI Hub and mandate a fuel drawdown.

The state, the city, the county, the feds, the facilities, the consumers ...

What do we want? "MOVE THE HUB!"
When do we want it? "BEFORE THE QUAKE!"
chadlykins.bsky.social
This is a wicked hard problem & even the best proposals coming from the city & county are simply trying to mitigate the worst effects of a major disaster.

To really fix the problem the state needs to move the hub.
trryjhrrs.bsky.social
So I'm starting to put together my CEI Hub comments (as everyone should be doing this week) and I gotta say, even the strongest of the proposed alternatives seems really weak to me. A quick🧵 1/5
